Meh, still not official

The clown above posted them first and other places seem to have copied. As I said, not saying the aren't going to be the prices but the official announcement hasn't come out yet

Bah, press release today... I was too early! (Emphasis mine)

Telstra, Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, and Apple® today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone 3G™ will be available to Telstra's over 9 million Australian customers on July 11. iPhone 3G™ combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

"Australians are very excited about iPhone 3G™ and we're delighted to bring this product to them on Telstra's high-speed Next G™ network," said David Moffatt, Telstra's consumer group managing director. "With iPhone 3G™ on the country's largest and fastest 3G network, providing coverage to 99 percent of the population, more Australians will enjoy the iPhone 3G™ experience in even more places."

"We're thrilled to work with Telstra to bring iPhone 3G™ to Australia's largest 3G network," said Tim Cook, Apple's COO. "iPhone 3G is an amazing product and we think Telstra's over 9 million mobile customers will love it as much as we do."

iPhone 3G will be available from Telstra on July 11 with a range of specially designed Next G™ iPhone 3G plans that meet the needs of any customer. The Next G™ iPhone 3G™ plans start at $30 per month with an upfront cost of $279 for the 8GB model and $399 for the 16GB model. Customers will receive the 8GB iPhone 3G™ model at no cost with the $80 plan and either the 8GB or the 16GB model at no cost with plans starting at $100 per month. All plans include free Wi-Fi access at Telstra hotspots and require a 24-month contract.

Customers can find further information and register their interest in iPhone 3G™ by visiting a nearby Telstra Shop, calling 1800iPhone or going to www.telstra.com/iphone.

*Based on 3G and EDGE testing. Actual speeds vary by site conditions.

Telstra is Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company with the country's largest and fastest 3G network and one of the best known brands in the country. The company offers a full range of services and competes in all telecommunications markets throughout Australia, providing more than 9.6 million Australian fixed line and more than 9.3 million mobile services, including 3.3 million 3G services.

Apple® ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple® continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple® is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.

With Telstra? You have got to be kidding!

They haven't told us anymore than what is in the release... But currently a $30 phone plan with Telstra gives $25 calls and $5 data, charged at $2/MB.
I would assume this is similar unless they are bringing out iPhone specific plans, which I wouldn't rule out.

Currently Telstra's data offerings are:
$5 for 5MB
$10 for 20MB
$29 for 80MB
$59 for 200MB
and from here my memory is a little hazy, but I think it's...
$89 for 1GB
$119 for 3GB.
Which you can add on to your plan...

However Telstra could very well release iPhone data plans, as they did for the Hiptop. The hiptop is a 2G phone but for $30 you got unlimited text messages/data use, including web browsing (yes it is unlimited, I have tried...)
Here is hoping for something similar.

Edit: Oh, and there is nothing mentioned about cap plans, but I could almost guarantee you will be able to get one if you wanted... but not with a subsidised phone on Telstra.
You would need to pay a full Mobile Repayment Option, which is the outright cost of the phone divided by 24 months.... Whatever the outright cost will be (thinking around $800).

Vodafone and Optus still have no pricing announced, but I can say that if they bring out some very competitive offerings expect some tweaking from Telstra.

Stop, stop... I'm about to piss my pants here.

Ten days until the launch... I still couldn't possibly care less about this thing

Fuck, maybe it's a good thing and with the hype surrounding it, other phones will be offered at better prices to get rid of them.

And on that note, I've just put my order in through work.

I'll thrash that bitch like I'd thrash a noisy child in a supermarket.

If I don't like it, one of my colleagues will snap it up.

Already I don't like having to use iTunes for synch. But the UI on these things is the best I've seen on a smartphone, add the GPS and I'm a happy camper.

So we'll see

Think I'll wait til people have thrashed the iPhone for a while... but it still doesn't seem to stack up to the Samsung i900 Omnia (Although it runs WM6 which is apparently pretty Shiite too).

Lolz @ Omnia? Have they come out with a release date for that yet?

When they have actually produced something that I can hold in my hand and play with (hur hur) I'll get excited.

The other option, much more configurable and not locked in to using iTunes...

Network Locking: Apple iPhone handsets are locked to the Optus network. An $80 fee applies if network locking is removed within the first 6 months from the activation date. Alternatively, if you recharge to the value of $80, no fee applies.
So they can be unlocked officially.

Forget data - apparently you still can't easily use these things as a modem/router anyway - use the net in front of a computer instead

Pretty though!
