I went googling after your post and all I could find was vapourware.
There are a few contenders coming out now - but they none of them seem to have quit the slick factor of the apple.
One day, they will. And I'll get another phone.

Can't deny the iPod is slick, IMO it is fkg awesome. Played with V1 in the last half of last year and really liked the UI / gimmick. It's just not the business solution I'm looking for. Don't know how it performed as a phone.
My research on it has only been minor and recent so I'm finding sites that say it is shit even as a phone, but that most likely was V1. Which is a bit of a Microsoft approach. First to market with a shit product and then fix it later. Great marketing, and yeah, eventually you'll get something you like, but you're buying hope.
But as I said, V2 might be great in comparison.
Either way, I've got about 6 months in me before I'd look any further into one.

I'd be the same, except my maps are getting woefully ancient on the tomtom mobile, I'm sick of having to lug the GPS receiver around, the calendar/contacts apps and sync are shit on the nokia and I've had nothing but grief with motorola and s-e phones.
Then I have a 10 minute play with one of my colleague's iPhone and just liked the interface.
Then found out work are getting three or four and that it was fine for me to grab one, play with it and - if it's no good for me - pass it on to someone else.
It's a no-lose scenario so I'll happily play whilst I wait for the perfect phone/pda combo to arrive!

And of course it's going to have a stunning look and feel.
It's a Mac, and regardless of if you are a windows or mac fanboy, the fact remains that Apple mac some of the best consumer devices available on the market today.
They just work.

See, I hear you and chyna bleat like raped lambs about symbian and how awful it is.
But I've been using it for years and have had zero issues with it. It's an arsehole to write software for (in C++ anyway, the midp java stuff is pretty simple but ugly). And sometimes it's a little clunky - with pauses etc where you don't expect them. But my user experience has been, on the whole, pretty good with symbian.

See this is my problem, an embedded software on a prorietory device should be solid as a rock.
I don't expect to wait an extra 2 seconds while it pulls up my contacts list.
I use none of the functionality of Symbian, never have programs open etc, yet it is still a horrible clunky slow bit of code.
Nokia had it down perfect with it's older gen phones, they all worked, and worked very well, on to Symbian, and it would appear they have rested on their laurels and relased shitty code.

got to agree there.
my wife's N65 takes forever to open Inbox, contacts, etc. i;m talking 2-3 second delay which is pretty unacceptable.
my blackberry = instantaneous.

Man, have you guys seen the WWDC on the iPhone? How easy it is to develop apps for it?

Sorry if it's been mentioned earlier in the post, too slack to read.

Eh..
I don't mind Symbian all that much. Takes less time to open contacts and messages on my N95 than my old SE P900. And it has a fair few features. Battery life (provided you don't leave wifi/camera/bt/music player all on all day isn't too bad (I get 2+ days out of mine) compared to the rest of the phones on the market. Haven't managed to get GPS to connect yet, but I've got assisted GPS switched off. BTW, pay for GPS? WTF? Why should you have to pay for the GPS capable device, as well as then data charges when all the maps are on the phone??? IDK....
I wouldn't buy the iPhone, simply because I already have an iPod (which I am quite happily running rockbox on) and no intention of using iTunes (I can manage my own fucking music kthnxbai) and the N95 has all of the other features (with the exception of the touch interface) that the iPhone has.
Plus Steve Jobs comes off as such a fucking douchebag.... I just can't bear to give him my money. Or Telstra for that matter.... I assume the Aussie edition is HSDPA? Seing as it's not only limited to Telstra...

I can't believe Vodafone still haven't got their plans up on the website. They leaked some yesterday for about 5 mins before taking them down and the general consensus is they were terrible. I'm hoping they've had a rethink and are closer to Optus pricing now.
Engadget has the leaked pricing if anyones interested.

No. No-one knows.
Is there any reason it might?
By the looks on their website, it's been ported to the WinMobile platform but no mention of the iPhone app.
Considering Apple has only just really released the SDK for the iPhones, I'd be very surprised if they had mate.
If they have a web interface you could use that!

Can confirm this is correct
Only two Telstra shops in WA are getting them tomorrow (Kalgoorlie and Morley), with other T-Shops getting them over the next few weeks.
Then we (Telstra Dealers like Fone Zone) will get them after about 4-6 weeks after release.
