why a doctor? they're not eye specialists. go see an opthamologist, an EYE doctor.
why do they wear glasses? because $6k ain't exactly chump change for most people and affording it is not that easy for everyone.
as for you being told not to have it - LASIK is NOT suitable for all eye types. it depends on whether you're long or short sighted, your cornea thickness, etc etc.![]()

I have no complaints went through Lions Eye institute lookie here also

The Surgery part of "Laser Eye Surgery"
Laser eye surgery

also - laser eye surgery doesnt prevent the normal deterioration of eyesight due to age, so chances are you will eventually end up with glasses anyway.

exactly.
it depends on how bad your eyes were and how long they've been steady on that prescrption. it's normally an 8yr minimum to 30yr max timeframe.
but hey, if you never had glasses before, chances are you'd end up with them in your 50/60's or so eventually, so no difference in the long run.
GTIL... a nice plain (no sugar or milk) rich black coffee, might as well be decaf though since my body annihilates 90% of drugs before they have any effect on me...
They can't say because AFAIK they LASIK hasn't been around long enough to have case studies of possible complications.
As I said, my fingertips would negate any effects of cleaning my contacts.

um, yes it has. LASIK in it's current form has been done for over 15yrs now. the surgery itself has been around for over 30yrs.
it ain't brand new, untested medicine mate.
doctors (who dun know what they're talking about firstly) that advise against it are biased and short-sighted (no pun) and probably advise against all "cosmetic" surgery regardless of the type and reason.
Oh okay, my bad. Regardless of what I was told I was/am still keen on getting it done when I can scrum together the $$$.
basically if your bad eyes are due to something that causes deterioration then chances are it will need to be redone. My aunt and an inlaw both needed to have it redone at about 7 - 8 years. The other option (depending on your condition of course) is lens replacement with a non degradable lens. My dad had this done and they will never need to be redone, so unless something else in his eye implodes then his eyesight will stay the same. costs about the same but consult your doctor/eye specialist person about both options depending on your condition.

Or you could go with something that doesn't have a chance of permanently fucking up your eyesight, and can potentially fix your near/farsightedness and astigmatism permanently with ongoing use, like orthokeratology.
I've got the money together and that's what I'm considering, personally.

best 5K i've ever spent!
I can drive without needing glasses, play sport and not lose contacts, wear sunglasses again!
FKN LOVE IT!

xanthian - laser surgery has one of the smallest risks possible regarding damage to your eye. majority of the risk is less correctio happening than intended, or nothing changed at all and money lost for no gain.
the lasers have incredibly accurate tracking sensors and any slight shift in eyeball location and they instantly turn off preventing unwanted damage.

The odds might be good, but they're not perfect. There's horror stories floating around of lasik resulting in worse uncorrected vision without glasses than before, or astigmatisms that are very difficult (impossible) to correct with a lens.
When orthokeratology is cheaper, 100% (not 99%, or 99.9%) reversible, and continues to work despite the cause of your corneal reshaping being environmental, I just don't see why Lasik unless you're too lazy to put in a fake contact lens twice a week or so.
Then again, I'm a tight arse, and my vision is the last thing I'd want to lose. Either way I'm a back seat driver since I still wear glasses.
My sister had this done.
She was your coke bottle wearing, nerdy looking chick, up until she was 20 with the prescription she was given.
This was 9 years ago as she hasnt had an issue since.
