Position Title

Metering Specialist Position Details

The Metering Specialist is responsible for the operation of pipeline measurement and reporting systems. This role ensures the accurate and reliable receipt and delivery of gas for the pipeline systems operated by APA Group in WA, and includes Pipeline Flow Modeling responsibilities. At times, this position will assist the Gas Controllers with the control and operation of the pipeline systems. Furthermore, this role provides specialist technical support to field personnel, and is the primary reference point for all new projects and upgrades involving metering and gas quality equipment.

Role Specific Duties:
· Ensure continuous operation of all custody transfer metering;
· Monitor all metering systems to minimise overall pipeline measurement errors, systems are compliant with contractual obligations and where errors are identified take appropriate action to resolve issues;
· Monitor all gas quality systems in accordance with contractual obligations to ensure all received and delivered gas is within specifications and where equipment faults are identified take appropriate action to resolve issues.
· Provide technical support to operational field personnel to resolve maintenance issues associated with metering and gas quality equipment and where faults are identified take appropriate action to resolve the issues;
· Coordinate and perform investigations of operational problems and equipment failures to determine root causes;
· Recommend remedial actions including the design and implementation of modifications to existing equipment and implement changes to operating or maintenance procedures.
· Liaise with producers, customers and shippers as required to assist with rectifying measurement errors in the supply and delivery of gas;
· Coordinate the collection of all necessary data for the preparation of pipeline measurement and billing summaries for asset managed by APA in WA;
· Establish and maintain a central inventory of metering and gas quality equipment to ensure that sufficient spares are available to ensure the company meets their contractual obligations, performance KPI targets and operational cost efficiencies are achieved.
· Carry out pipeline flow modelling as required;
· Project manage operational projects associated with metering and gas quality systems;
· Develop and maintain procedures that ensures standardized work practices for operation and maintenance of metering and gas quality systems and test equipment;
· Implement and maintain a metering validation certification program for field technicians
· Conduct training with field personnel in the operation and maintenance of metering and gas quality systems
· Provide accurate input into the preparation of department budgets and forecasts for area of accountability within agreed dates;
· Provide reports on the performance of the metering and gas quality systems as required contractually and the company;
· Attend to duties as requested by the senior management team in a diligent and conscientious manner;
· Perform any other adhoc duties as requested by superiors.

Experience

Essential
· Relevant Trade certificate & previous experience in gas pipeline quality & quantity measurement systems or an Engineering qualification entitling Graduate Membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Mechatronics engineering preferable).

Desirable
· Exposure to NATA and Quality Systems.

Skill & Knowledge

Essential
· Strong Computer Programming background (C, VBA, & Accol experience desirable);
· Experience with setting up and using Computer Modelling software;
· Understanding of fluid dynamics, organic chemistry, and pipeline operation;
· Well developed problem solving and analytical skills.

I'm got with computers and can pull them apart and build them, same goes with basically anything electronic. Physically fit and don't mind heavy lifting.
Learn very fast with anything hands on and interesting. Only times I'm busy is 4pm-6pm weekdays and 1pm-6pm wednesday.
