    M3 Metal lock nuts

I'm chasing some M3 metal lock nuts for use in a high vibration, high temp area (muffler/exhaust) and hence can't use nyloc nuts or loctite.
    Any suggestions?

Use a second nut to lock it?

I would be surprised if Covs have anything other than Nylocs in M3. Worth asking though.

You can purchase something called "platelock" nuts. Or conelock. Platelock are similar to a nyloc except they have a spiral metal disc in place of the nylon. Conelock are crimped over at the top and the last few threads squeeze onto the thread.

    Nordlock washers & bolts

    http://www.nord-lock.com/default.asp?url=2.16.37

    Tension makes the bolt self-locking
The key is the difference in angles. Since the cam angle " α " is larger than the thread pitch " β ", the pair of washers expand more than the corresponding pitch of the thread. NORD-LOCK washers positively lock the fastener in a joint which is subjected to extreme vibration or dynamic loads.
