Mobile phones. Whats thelatest and greatest?

    Hey guys
I found out the other day that my contract is finished with telstra and i can get a new phone. My old one still works but has a few bugs and things that annoy me. The last phone i bought was the HTC HD2, got it the day it was released, it has served its purpose but now its getting a bit old, and doesnt have many apps etc for it.

So whats the latest and greatest? Is it worth getting something now or waiting a few months for a new release (thinking Galaxy S3)

Requirements... has to work on Telstra Next G network, i do a fair bit of country work and need the best coverage possible.
-Not apple.. i dont want to start the whole apple vs everyone else debate, but thats my preference.

So what do people have or recommend? Or do people know about some new releases happening soon?

    Thanks for the help guys

If you BYO your own phone, iinet have monthly plans from 10 bucks. I'm on the 20 buck plan that gives 400 talk and text as well as 1.5 gb data. Something worth looking at.

    Optus network.
Although if you need it for work, you'll probably have to remain getting your wallet raped by Telstra.

I doubt Vodafone is any better, the data is hit and miss on my phone but I can't be bothered changing. We have a bunch of Telstra phones on data that send MMS, you sure you have the correct settings?

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 if you want the phone now James.
SGS3 if you can wait, but could be 3 months or more before we see it release.

I ordered a Galaxy Nexus after considering the Galaxy S2. I chose the Nexus because it is Google's phone rather than SGS2 as it gets software updates first.
I was planning on waiting for the SGS3 but my old phone (HTC Desire HD) died on Saturday.
I can let you know how it goes when it arrives if you're interested.
Is such a thing even possible?

I must admit I prefer the alloy body of the top HTCs to the flimsy feeling Samsung, but if you wrap it in an Otterskin or summat it should hold up okay. SuperOLED sure is purty. Getting the vanilla Google phone does have the update advantage, but HTC Sense (and you ARE migrating from an HD2) is a very slick skinning of the OS... just my thoughts.

Heck yeh - another vote for HTC here - I'm using the HTC sensation, highest resolution on the market at the moment, create steel case, feels great in the hand, the screen is super responsive and just the right tone of colour and brightness. It also runs android - best operating system out there for mobile devices.

I too migrated from a HTC HD2 and it is worlds in front man.

I'm with telstra too - and for the coverage and service, you really can't go past them. Check out the android thread!

Any of the Dual Core Android phones are the go.
Just go hold them all and pick the one you like.

oh it works but not all the time. Data just decides it can't connect so I put the iFail in airplane mode for a few seconds, back on and the mms goes.

i bet it's a iphone problem rather than a network one. i've never had any similar problems but the number of people with iphones who complain about it suggest it's yet another problem with the device.

my dad actually has the exact same problem on telstra with his iphone 4 with telstra, but my mum who has the same phone and plan has no problems whatsoever.

I agree, as far as I could figure out the airplane mode on/off seems to be the quickest fix.

What ever you do don't send an email to an undeliverable address on a POP server with an iPhone.
