My first foray into underwater photography

My colleague, friend and instructor, Junko, lent me her camera and housing today to finish my advanced open water course.
I'm pretty pleased with some of these shots, but it's so easy to get utterly immersed in your subject matter, I could easily spend tanks in one spot just photographing everything.
All shots taken on a Canon Ixus 130 in an Ikelite housing, straight off the camera, some have been cropped.

    Bubble rings

    Nudibranchs

    Just chillin'

    A Batfish

I spent ages trying to get a good shot of these pink anemone fish in their carpet anemone

Christmas tree worms, filter feeders that bore into corals

    Schooling fish

Hydroid(?), I didn't quite get this shot right.

An occy keeping an eye on things.

I have to say, John; after years of being a phototard and not being able to produce a decent photo, I have actually managed to take a couple of shots I'm pleased about.

As you should be. Now you'll need to buy this: Lucis Pro 6.0 Image Enhancement Software for Artists and Scientists

See, the problem now is that I need a housing, a camera and a strobe, not some software that ruins my photos

Even the basic tools in Picasa will do a good job

    Nice work.

    Photoshop will become your friend.

You can get a Canon Powershot in a housing for about $600 if you shop around. A decent strobe will cost the same again. Then you'll want a second one. Oooh, and a focus light. And video lights. Oh, and then to upgrade to an SLR. And then a DPV to carry it all for you. Hmmm, need a bigger computer for post processing, then...
