Need a plumber to install dishwasher?

So ... Things have reached an impasse at home. I refuse to do dishes, and apparently paper saucepans don't work very well......

Its time to buy a dishwasher. But what do I need to do in terms of getting it plumbed in? Does it have to be placed anywhere specific in the kitchen? Or can I just pull any old cabinet out and stick it there?

Is it a quick DIY type job, or do I need a plumber, any recommendations?

If you don't have a dishwasher recess already, I'd be putting it in the too hard basket.

^^ What Wigs said. Cabinet maker, plumber, sparkie.. Might as well wait until renovating the whole kitchen.
Unless you want to put it on the end of the cabinets, sitting on its own.

Legally you do need a plumber, any problems down the track will be swiftly identified by your insurance company and nullify your policy.
Most dishwashers come with a plug but unless you have a GPO in close proximity above any potential water leaks, get a sparky in.
Do not use an extension lead anywhere near a wet area, under sink etc. Sooner or later a leak will develop and water combined with electricity does not usually
    end in happy ever after.
Dunno if you are married or in a relationship, if you are then why are you doing the dishes anyway?

Because she should be doing the dishes after she's cooked.

surely it depends on what work is required.

in many cases a dishwasher is nothing more than a plug-in appliance.

We have fitted one last Xmas. It just pluges into a wall socket for power but the wall plate must not be behind the dishwasher it has to be in an adjacent cupboard.
As for water it just connects to your cold water tap as does your clothes washer, have you seen that

So you need to pull out an old cupboard making sure the inside height is enough to allow the dishwasher to slide in.
You need a sparky to drop a cable down the wall cavity if it is an outside double brick wall and then fit a wall faceplate in side the nearest cupboard. Plus you will need a hole drilled the cupboard wall to pass the cable from the dishwasher through.

Then you need a plumber to take a cold water pipe from your existing kitchen tap and run it over behind where the dishwasher will go. Also you don't need an expensive tap here, a brass garden tap will do.

We did one a few years ago, cost the same as the dishwasher ie approx $700 that was the cabinet maker, plumber and sparky. The mob i used did it all, I'll try and track down the name.

    Hiya mate,
We do these all the time obviously not in perth gable ends need to be cut out of your kitchen and doors cut down replaced then you need a sparky and a plumber. As a reference we charge $450 for a dry cut but everything is re edged in abs slightly more for vinyl doors. A sparky should charge $150.00 to $170.00 and a plumber $180.00 these are mandurah prices the CBD might be different mate, dont let a hndyman do it unless reccommended ive seen a few abortions if you need any advice pm me (sorry but i wouldnt travel to perth for a cut in)

You need to read the dishwasher manual, it may tell you if a registered plumber did not connect the dishwasher your warranty will be void.

ha! that may well be what they say, but good luck to them trying to hold you to it if it actually fails.
