    New business ideas

This thread is for people who've had ideas that they believe would perform exceptionally well but lack the capital, drive, education or ability to actually get it off the ground; who knows - someone else here might be able to execute your plan & bring you on board.

One business that I would very, very much utilise the services of, if someone were able to get it off the ground, would be this:

    Rent a workshop
    • A fully stocked workshop with tools & equipment, welders, air compressors, a plasma cutter etc.
    • A car hoist
    • A retail section with consumables such as oil, hoses, etc. that you can purchase as required

    The rules:
    • You book a car bay prior to arrival
    • Pay a bond for any equipment you might break
    • Pay a daily fee which would cover personal insurance, upkeep of the equipment, etc.
    • Drive your car in onto the hoist, you have the workshop at your disposal
    • You buy the consumables such as oil, radiator fluid, weld sticks etc.
    • You use the equipment for what it's intended
    • You damage your vehicle it's your problem, you damage their equipment it comes out of your bond
    • You clean up when you leave.

Target market would be people like me who have the know-how to effect repairs but lack the space & equipment to do so. (I'm in an apartment & too often I'm in my little section of the carpark with my car on blocks trying to do stuff - I also lack a lot of the higher priced equipment such as welders & air compressors that I would find incredibly handy!)

So, that's something I'd like someone to start so I can make use of it.

Anyone else have any business ideas that would work well or there's a market for?

Somebody has recently set up this exact thing, just can't remember the name of it.

Wasn't this like the place in the Stephen King movie "Christine", where the dorky guys does up his car?

EDIT*** Yes, I know its a movie - just raising the fact that this may already be a successful idea elsewhere, and worthwhile looking into.

What Barfy said - cannot recall the name of it but think there is an outfit in the southern suburbs (O'Connor or something) that has recently set up a self service workshop.

Remember reading about it in Perth Street Cars magazine a couple of issues back.

Surely there would be some massive health and safety concerns depending on the equipment available, unless signing a disclaimer is a requirement.

you would have to stock take everything after each job

would be labour intensive because you need someone on site regardless of the self service especially if it was busy, how would you determine who stole what if you didnt stock take after each person

that said not a brainy job so minimum wage perhaps x 24 hours a day x 365?

then the challenge of keeping that minimum wage person motivated so expect high turnover position and losses of tools as a result

needs some more thought here but would suit an operational service centre with mechanics already on site as an addition to the services offered

then comes the public liability and unqualified people in the workshop agains needs heaps of thought and a plan

All I need is approval to get Booze bus locations off the Police.

McDonalds 24 hour home delivery......that is all.

I expect that would reduce a lot of drink driving between midnite and 4am.
Yamaha MT-01: R1 front end, 1670cc V-twin, Staintune pipes, Power Commander, BMC filter, braided lines, Repsol orange rim stripes.

Get a second opinion, or maybe just some real news.

Bottleshop home delivery is something I would definitely pay for.

I've lost count of the number of times I've run out of beer and I'm too pissed to drive... Calling up for a carton would be awesome

Agreed. Also more suburban bakeries would be nice.

A capsule/pod hotel in every major CBD area in Australia that has hourly rates.

Why in the world is this not done yet?
