Nikon megathread (Canon fans keep out :D)

Wonder where I got this idea from?

    My kit as it stands:
    body:
    D80

    lenses:
    Nikon 12-24 f4
Sigma 28-70 f2.8 (not bad, a bit soft at f2.8, but tack sharp from f4 on)
    Nikon 50mm f1.8
    Nikon 80-400 f4-5.6 VR

    flash:
    Nikon SB400

    tripod:
    some cheapy aluminium jobbie

    bag:
    naneu pro K3L

    Plans for future purchases:
    - upgrade flash, I think the SB600 is good enough for me, I can't justify the SB900
    - monopod, as the 80-400 gets heavy quickly
    - larger bag for all the crap
    - a dedicated portrait lens, the 85mm f1.8 is the classic choice (or the 1.4 is my budget allows)
    - a dedicated macro lens, the Nikon 105mm rates well
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/

You forgot to mention that you never transported your Nikon gear on your bike while riding out of class never mind riding uninsured-out of class in a PSB photo group ride.

    Nikon D40
    Fisheye.
    18-55 mm VR.
    55-200 mm VR.
    400 mm fixed.
    Linhoff tripod.
    Tamrac bag.

I normally use a D80 with the average 18-135mm nikon kit lens.

But also have access to a D700 when I want to do better stuff.
    Nikon 24-70mm f2.8
    Nikon 14-24mm f2.8
Nikon 50mm f1.8 i can steal as well.

flash is a sb600. I love the wireless ability of this flash.

    Some crappy ally tripod

Really want to get a 70-200mm f2.8 desperately.

It's only low if said pigmented fellow is non-reflective.

I've really been digging my 80-400 lately, I'm amazed how sharp it is.

Here is a 100% crop, you can see individual hairs, veins etc. And this was from a range of about 25 metres. I was on the verandah of the building you can see in the reflection of the glasses.

Pity it's such a heavy thing to lug around...

It is expected to go on sale in May 2010, for a estimated price of $6,999.95/ €7400.00.
I'm sure it'll be nice, but that's pretty steep!

My digital nikon gear is a bit on the slim side... but my older film gear on the other hand

    Digital -

    D50 - 18-70mm kit lens, 20mm/f2.8, 50mm/f1.8

    Film Bodies -

Nikon F - Black with eyelevel (meterless) finder & waist level finder
Nikon F - Chrome with FTn finder
    Nikkormat FTn - Chrome
Nikon F3 - Black with std, HP and waist level finder, MD-4 motordrive, MK-1 firing rate converter
    Nikon F4s
    Nikon FM3a - Black

Lenses - (18mm is a Sigma the rest are Nikon)

    18mm/f3.5 fisheye
    24mm/f2
    35mm/f1.4
    50mm/f1.4
    50mm/f1.8
    85mm/f2
    75-150mm/f3.5

Manfrotto tripod with a QR ball head

    Possible future purchases:

    35mm/f1.8
    105mm/f2.8 macro lens
Nikon F2 (Film camera to replace one I had stolen and to complete my MF pro body collection)

Undecided DSLR body - Looking for awesome high iso quality, fast focus in low light, big/bright viewfinder, small body size.. and if I'm dreaming... a full frame sensor and backwards compatibility with my older manual focus lenses, extra tough build and stripped down features (no fluff)

I've had my camera for a bit more than a year but too poor to buy any accessories.

    Nikon D90
    Nikon 18-135mm VR
Old school flash which I pinched from my Mum's bag
    Cheapo Tripod

    Future purchases:
    35mm f1.8
    70-300mm VR
    SB600

On another note, is there a group of photographers on here that meet up and have a lil photo shoot?

Hey a Nikon thread is a great idea, I'm in. Who needs those whiney canon people cluttering up the the thread anyway? Just kidding

    My gear is as follows.

    D700
    24 mm F2.8 Sigma
    28 mm F2 AI-s Nikkor
    35 mm F2 AI-s Nikkor
    50 mm F1.4 Sigma
    75-150 F3.5 AI-s Nikkor
    300 mm 2.8 Sigma
Manfotto 055 Pro tripod 460 head
Slik carbon fibre monopod Manfrotto head

Plus a small collection of film cameras that I never use including Nikon F, Nikon EM, Nikon F90X, Pentax K1000 85 F2, Asahiflex SLR (1949), Yashica A
and a few rangefinder cameras from the fifties.

I mostly shoot landscape stuff but since joining PSB (and buying another bike) I might turn up at on one of the track days and get a few shots of members trying to ride fast.
