COD4 and COD WAW, my mate is addicted to these games on XBox 360. I don't find FPS too bad on that console but seeing as you tried it on the Wii fair enough! That thing is horrible for FPS, from the few games I've been unfortunate enough to try. I'm still hooked on multiplayer Halo 3, I am soo two years ago. I'll be getting COD WAW and COD4 ASAP BTW.
Are these types of games heaps better on PC? I have a kickass PC at work which I may have to install some games on![]()
Civilisation 4 is pretty epic.
"In all the human societies we have ever reviewed, in every age and in every state, there has seldom if ever been a shortage of eager young males prepared to kill and die to preserve the security, comfort and prejudices of their elders, and what you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots." -The Culture

That was actually my number one complaint with ETQW when I tried it.
I'm a bit of an old vet on the free ET servers. Wouldn't say I was a pro gamer, but I was able to hold my own on the free servers and rather heavily annihilated at one UWA Cameron Hall Vigil in particular. But the whole point of the game to me was that it was one of the campiest campfests that ever camped. Especially some of the stock maps. It took me a good 2-2.5 weeks before I was even able to have a 1:2 kill:death ratio on a public server, so the learning curve was right up there and the playerbase certainly had the goods.
ETQW came out. I was all over that one like a rash. And while mechanically, the game works, and looks better than ET, has more interesting objectives, more maps (and possibly more balanced maps but I haven't had the time to test) I found the playerbase to be completely off-calibur. As in, I think I had a 24 kill spree one game where I just stole a uniform and knifed the other team in the back repeatedly. I thought they were bots, they were that single-minded and easy to kill.
Sure. Camping and taking out 3 or 4 guys from behind after they run past you is fun the first few times. Running out with guns blazing and taking out 3 or 4 guys head on, when you're doing the most stupid thing you can think of, just doesn't appeal to my nature though. There's no reward without earning it in an fps. And in original ET, giving away your location was tantamount to 3 or 4 headshots before you could pull the pin on a grenade.
At least buying Quake Wars brought me back to original ET for a few more weeks. That's worth something, I guess.
I play COD4 online as Sentry. Get bored pretty quick though.
So why a games thread and not a whole topic? I'm sure game threads take up more room than Healthy, Wealthy and Rice threads![]()

Increasing my carbon footprint - one 500 @ a time...

Heh, aimbots were fun, and brought some much needed variety to the rather tame 6 map rotation. Fuck, covert ops with a sten getting permanent headshots and killing people before their head hit the ground was just hilarious. Mostly because the sten was one of the lowest damage weapons with a rather poor refire rate, and it even overheated if you fired too often. However it was the most accurate fully automatic weapon, and started with some of the largest amount of ammo; a bot's dream.
I remember one time when the GM struggled to boot the botting player because their bot kept changing the player name every 0.5 seconds or something... but I digress.
I frequented the iinet, 3fl, internode and gamearena servers. Basically any public server that had ETPro, players and a low ping. I don't recall seeing any .:VC:. servers, if they went by that name.
I think the other problem I had with Quake Wars was the map size. They were just so big it didn't encourage conflict. Had much the same problem with open world maps in the later Unreal Tournaments too.
I can't find this as a youtube video but :
