Since it is the hot topic (and looks to be a long and diverse gameplay kinda game) thought it could do with it's own thread?

Hints and tips and experiences and gameplay style can be shared here, with appropriate spoiler alerts.

PS. Anyone else find Lydia to be a smouldering, passive aggressive with issues? And she always seems slow to support in action

Magic is rapidly becomeing the redheaded step child of the 3 class archetypes (not that anyone should be surprised, it's par for the course for TES) now that I'm level 20. It would be slightly better if I could get a couple of new spells though, especially a different tank summons or some decent firepower or some proper crowd control. Why they took away the ability to craft your own spells is totally beyond me.

Enjoying this far more than Morrowind or Oblivion though. The world is very pretty and the fights with the dragons are suitably epic. Giant/mammoth/dragon balance is in dire need of some tweaking though.

I'm having fun with it at the moment, playing it when I'm not enjoying the magnificence that is Battlefield3. I've gone the 2 handed warrior type dude that has somehow come out looking like Jason Momoa. He's a wrecking ball at the moment, and I can't help but raise zombies to fight for me too. Quite an incredible game, I recommend it to anyone that's into gaming, even if you've traditionally shied away from RPG's.

I'm getting raped...
The Siege on the dragon cult quest (Ruins of Forelhost) I found to be almost impossible at level 14. The undead guys soak up my magic like there's no tomorrow and dish out plenty on my bony ass. I ended up running around bookcases constantly waiting for my magic to generate all the while poor lydia was getting her ass handed to her every 30 seconds

P.S I somehow contracted the vampire curse thingy. This thing is a pain in the ass to remove due to some bug with the bloke who can remove it. After about 10-15 saves and him still not recognizing me at dawn I found a solution.
After filling the black soul gem and giving it to him he says meet me at dawn, that night feed on someone in the village, it doesn't matter who. Just feed! (break into a house at 2am, sneak up on someone sleeping and press the action key, will prompt do you want to feed or pick-pocket)
Then go to where he says to meet wait a bit and bam, done it on first go.

there doesnt seem to be so much emphasis on magic compared to 3 and 4. i wonder if its deliberate because skyrim is nordic and the nords are anti magic.

ive got 87 one handed and sneak is 80 or 125 with bonuses. its getting just a bit silly now. all the critical bonuses and a 30x backstab multiplier has overpowered my character too much.

btw tip, if people find those masks from the undead nord liches, keep them dont sell them or lose them. they make a set which can be placed in an alter. i think i lost one and cannot unlock the alter without it.

Skyrim is awesome everything that was good about Oblivion and Fallout 3 and more. I'm currently level 32 with my Destruction magic at 99. Also merchants do not have enough gold which is annoying and I'm pretty sure deliberate.

It's the Skyrim Space Program, you were obviously one of the test pilots.
One of my nerd friends best described this game like so:

"Playing Skyrim is like playing a character and the dungeon master at the same time. You can cheat to max out almost anything so there is a gentleman's agreement between yourself and the game to not abuse the living fuck out of everything"

Yeah, I am trying to play character, rather than "beating" the game -the fun lasts longer. And giants are just plain bad-arse, so of course you get smacked into low orbit
