PC savvy person needed Win XP

I have a small laptop I am using for my bike and car and it runs Win 7 64bit.

The main programs I need for my car diagnostics dont run on this and apparently run best on win XP.

Can someone local to vic park/carlisle wipe the currrent and load XP for me please?
    Happy to drop it off.
Obviously I dont want any illegal copies or anything like that (coff), coz I am straight up yo.

    Thanks,

    Dubs

You can actuallu get a free Windows XP virtual computer installed onto it which will allow you to run any XP applications. We currently do this at work to run older versions of Drafting software......

This is freely available off the microsoft site.....

I thought Windows virtual PC mode required a certain version of Windows 7 and capable hardware?

Well, I'm in the city and I can swing by Vic Park easy enough on the way back to Canning Vale after work today. I'll probably have to keep it with me overnight. No backpack on me today though.
If you have the installers, I can probably do it for you on the spot. Should take maybe an hour depending on your machine.

Drop me a PM if no one else can get it done quicker.

Virtualbox + windowsxp cd. Make yourself a tiny little xp vm to run your program.

No need to do anything as drastic as a format/reinstall.

Depends on how the software and hardware handle the usb(i assume) passthrough.

If its for USB -> serial adapter, i've used vmware with great success.

Eval version is free for 30 days, i think its 199 bucks. Or just use vmware player which runs virtual machines created in workstation, and is free.

Virtualbox is ok too, but now ORACLE have their hands on it, expect it to go to shit/be killed/etc in short order.

Trick here is to make a solution that's reliable and requires zero nerd trickier on the end users part. Something that can be easily replicated by any numpty with a Windows installation disc.

All well and good setting up VM's for us nerds, but if we all go down on the same plane as Buddy Holly and something goes wrong, Dubs (in this case) needs to be able to give it to the dopiest level 1 support guy and say "Make work, it has the windows eckspeez"

So.. yeah.. simplicity, if it's best with Windows XP and there's no other requirements prohibiting that from a user standpoint, then do it. The most "elegant" solution in this case.

    OK,

    thanks for the replies.
I tried to install XP Mode (virtual thingy) over the top of Win 7 and it wouldnt take it, not enough oompf in the little lappy.
It looks like theres only enough gas for 1 system and as I said this is purely a diagnostic lappy for the bike and car.

So, if someone is still offering to drop XP on there I'd be grateful.

I didn't ride in with my backpack today.
Do you have the installer disc or do I need to bring it in a USB stick or something some other time?
If you have the disc I can get it done for you after work today. If not, I will probably end up caging it to work tomorrow if the rain is heavy so I can do it overnight for you.

Hmmm... In that case, I'll put the installer on a USB stick tonight.
Shoot me a PM and I'll come pick it up tomorrow.
    No backpack with me today.
    Leaving work soon.
