    pentax lens mount type

I'm looking at buying a pentax k5 online an was wondering if the lenses that were bought for k10d would have full af still?

currently at work so can't check the lenses first hand but they were bought at the same time as the k10d from gerry gibbs a few years ago.

reason for asking is hoping to just buy the camera body only an use the lenses i currently have as the main one i use wasn't cheap.

I have a friend who has Pentax gear and he has a range of current pro level lenses and a bunch of older stuff as well. I remember him telling me that everything works seamlessly with his Pentax DSLR. I can't remember what model it was but one of the better if not the best Pentax DSLR. I loaned him a 85mm F2 from my Pentax K1000, circa 1976, and it works faultlessly with the digital system, albeit manually. This would lead me to conclude that Pentax have worked hard to ensure that their bodies and lenses were compatible over the years so I would think that you shouldn't have any problems.

//That reminds me, I must get that 85mm back one day.... damn artists

IIRC the mount will fit, but AF and anything else electronic won't. So manual focus, aperture, etc.

Thanks but I'm specifically concerned about the auto focus.

It'll be getting used as a everyday camera so autofocus is handy.

K10D and K5 both were designed for AF Pentax lenses so lenses that work on on the K10 will work exactly the same on the K5.

In fact, all autofocus Pentax lenses ever made will AF on the K5 (except the one-off 28-70f2.8 zoom from 1981 designed specifically for the world's first AF SLR, the ME-F)

Pentax has the best backwards capability of any SLR camera manufacturer. All Pentax lenses ever made will fit on the K5 albeit with only limited functionality in some cases (eg. no autofocus on manual focus lenses).

what Spock said. Have used DWI before for lenses, fast delivery but no Oz warranty to speak of.

Gerry Gibbs is pretty representative of street prices in Perth.

Ah k. Rather fond of warranty especially when things start getting dearer.

Might just buy it from Gerry gibbs. Have used them numerous times in the past an the service has always been great
