Yeah I ordered my HTC Desire for 600 delivered from the UK about a week ago, but that fucking volcano relegated it to landmail across europe. It only just winged its way to china and then singapore today. It'll be in my grubby mitts this coming week I'd wager.

(yes I already have a HTC Hero. I have 2 phones, this is an upgrade for a LG Viewty.)

edit: oh and Scutters, don't kid yourself mate, you'll be fucking with that Sense interface for at LEAST a fortnight. It's so customisable it's not funny.

Just to update, the OLED display is amazing. And yeah, Ferris, waaaay to much to be mucking around with here! The widgets are great and the HTC Sense is intuitive and enjoyable. Nice to have some physical buttons as a constant to complement the UI. Be nice if so many apps did not require Net connection simply to host the ads!
And would like to know the best vid conversion app for such (well opinions at least)

Oh since they multi task, you'll probably find that by comparison, Android phones data-leak a shitload compared to iPhones. They often have shit going on the in the background you may not be aware of. My recommendation is to put the Mobile Internet htc widget on your desktop and only turn it on when you actually need it. I've blown out my data quota on week 1 twice in a row now.

A couple of culprits are Googles Listen RSS feeder, and Newsroom updating all the time. They've updated both with options to only update their shit when on WiFi, but yeah, trap for young players to look out for.

Bugger, my HTC Desire seems be a no go in the GPS department. Turn on the GPS radio but cannot find a satelite.... I hope I am just missing something simple here

Bit of a web crawl and appears it is a software issue due to 'fixed after long weekend'.... Specifically a Telstra branded issue (got mine in a T shop before they had it on display) Hopefully a firmware fix will also root out all the telstra shite....

The hero is still running 1.6, but there are a fai few custom 2.1 roms with sense over the top. Anyone running a 2.1 custom rom? Any difference in speed?

Ok so i recently upgraded to a 2.1 ROM (SenseHero 2.2) and i have to say its amazing.
Pretty damn quick, cool features (like voice input for any text field, and live wallpapers ).
Google goggles and shopper work a treat.
But my fav app so far has to be PhonemyPc
    see here
    SoftwareForMe.com - PhoneMyPC
It allows me to connect to my computer from anywhere, so long as both phone and pc have internet connected, and the trackball becomes the mouse on my computer and i have full live control over my computer.
I have my brother instal it on his computer so when he needs some settings changed i can do it from my phone.
Also great to make sure no one is using your PC for anything they shouldnt.
App costs 10 bucks but it is brilliant.

You need to download a small server to run on your computer but it is less than a meg, then just type in a user name and password you want, do the same on your phone and away you go.

EDIT: Added some screen grabs of my Hero.
I have 2 full screens free ha ha, the others are a bit messy though. Might have a play around today to make them a bit tidier

an eBook reader for your android phone. Mileage may vary depending on your phone screen size. I personally love this app, running on both a Hero and Desire. Has a night mode so you can have black background, red text at night to protect your night vision. Decent library of free books as well as any of your own you add.

Yeah that iPhone app is now on Android. Can't decide where to eat? Select from 3 criteria, with the ability to lock any. Suburb, Nationality and Price. Shake your phone and it'll RNG a restaurant for you, with phone, map, website. Pretty sweet actually, I had a use for it a few weeks ago when I ended up in a suburb with a shirtload of restaurants, and I needed to find a Tapas bar. Urbanspoon found me both of them, within walking distance from where I was.

Putting a fresh install of Windows on the internet is like giving a nymphomaniac a job at an STD clinic and then slipping viagra into their coffee. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but trust me, it isn't.

Really wish i coulda got a desire, that snapdragon 1ghz would be sweet. Im a student though so grabbed the Hero. byt he way, Selling an iPhone 3g 8GB unlocked, brand new in box if anyone has any friends that want one. They are fetching 500+ on ebay before postage so im asking $500

ABC news app is kinda cool when you wanna catch up on headlines, i dont watch much TV or read the newspaper so its great for me.
Try Helix launcher if you want a difference home set up, supports up to 7 homescreens. You can elimiate the ones that are blank to make navigation easier. Also has space for 4 docked shortcuts at the bottom which is great. I still stick with the standard home screen though
not sure if i mentioned it already but xscope is a pretty decent browser.

Titanium backup is great if you flash different roms, can restore all your apps and app data automatically.

Pure calender widget gives you a more customisable(sp?) calender widget. Defs worth a look if you use the calender a lot. As for a replacement calender, try Gemini Calender.

http://androidforums.com here is a pretty decent android forum, has sub forums for the various phones as well as general ones dedicated to app announcements and reviews.

Looking forward to getting this phone as had some serious crap phones recently (Nokia 6710 Navigator+Symbian = woefully, turdishly bad) and dont want to fall into the Apple honeypot!

with my Hero i plug it in via USB then drag down the notification bar, select USB charging and change it to USB mount.
If that doesnt work then try settings>Connect to PC and change the default connection type.
    Otherwise read your instruction manual
Dont throw it at a wall, give it to me if you want...

    App thread, not help thread.

Download the new version of HTC SYNC off HTC's website

Plug Phone into PC via cable.
Drag the top notification bar on the phone down until you can see the CONNECT VIA USB button.
You should be able to do whatever the fuck you wanna do with the phone now. (sync, add files, take files etc)
When you're done, "safely remove hardware" from windows, then (unmount) on phone.

    Done.

For anything further I suggest the HTC.com website.

    HTC Desire
ROM update and GPS sorted, and faster on the sats than my Tom Tom, even indoors. Had work phones glued to my hip for years, first one I get so much fun from - some great apps for free.

Saw a wicked video yesterday of someone pairing a Wii controller to a Nexus One and running a SNES emulator to play Donkey Kong Country. Very impressive
