Careful with Crossfit. Proper form is not encouraged which can lead to injuries.

Perhaps you should come along and see for yourself rather than passing judgement on us from afar? Brendan never lets anyone lift what he doesn't know they are capable of and we do more form work than anything else. As far as i am aware nobody who participates in our cross fit group has suffered any injuries from it (excluding muscle soreness, we work hard)

People who try cross fit movements when they aren't ready, or who are taught without regard to proper technique will hurt themselves. This is a fact. But your statement smacks of ignorance. Injuries can happen anywhere if form isn't adhered to. Cross fit is no more dangerous than any other form of exercise when taught poorly.

Rorschach, send brendanc a pm and he'll let you know all about it

I'll drop him a line and see what the deal is. I had a quick look at the thread and Yokine might be a bit far for me to get to from work though.

Just sent Brendan a pm so once I get some more information, I'll make an informed decision.
If not, might look for something similar but a bit more local.

Racing deadlifts is asking for trouble. They are a dangerous exercise because if proper form isn't used you can ruin your back (they're fine if done properly). If someone is racing against the clock they will be far more likely to get sloppy on form and hurt themselves, why would you encourage someone to hurry through deadlifts?

Look at this crossfit video where someone does "chin ups" with massive kipping. Again the quest for speed leads to poor form.
Is such a thing even possible?

I suggest you do a little more research on Crossfit techniques and make an informed decision on our methods and philosophies, rather than post up the same old argument about speed over form.

Your opinion is correct however all exercise done without correct form and execution will result in injury.

I've never seen or allowed any of my clients to do anything that will result in their health being compromised in any way.

This however is taking this thread off topic I thought it was here to encourage people to achieve their fitness goals not to nit pick how they get there.
All my workouts are designed for experienced crossfitters please scale according to your abilities as these workouts can seriously ruin your day.

“Commitment spawns success. Only by redoubling our efforts do we best succeed. Expecting success to motivate our efforts is the loser’s gambit.”

Renewed gym membership on Friday, straight in with the basics, squats, bench, deadlifts and cleans. However, i watched the crossfit world champs a little while ago and i am interested for sure, but first off, what are the basic requirements for this crossfit class?

No requirements at all. All you need to do is turn up and have a go :-)

We should probably move this discussion over to the cross fit thread anyway. Don't want to piss off the captain too much

I'm trying to lose a few pounds generally and over the next few months specifically. I'm 28, 180cms tall and weigh 103kgs, and I'd like to get down to about 80kgs ideally, but thats a longer term goal.
I'm going back home to England for a wedding in May for a visit and a wedding, and want to be a bit trimmer by then.
I just signed up to MyFitnessPal and I'm going to try and document my calorie intake through that.
I've put on about 10kgs since I moved over to WA and in with my Mrs 10 months ago, mainly as I started eating 3 times a day for the first time in over 10 years, as I used to skip breakfast, have a big lunch and just snack for my dinner.
I'm doing more exercise than I was when I lived in Sydney and drinking considerably less than I was and still it wont go away.
Recently started on those meal replacement shakes for when I'm at work for breakfast/lunch, I reckon I'll give them a few weeks in conjunction with a bit more exercise in general. Shame they all taste arse except the Blackmores ones, but they use milk and not water.

I'm not signed up to a gym or anything as I hate exercising on my own and talk myself out of things quite readily, and would much rather do some group fitness classes. Running and swimming are also out of the question due to knee problems and a shoulder problem respectively.

Any tips/motivational aids anyone could give me to start shifting the kgs would be ace!
Diet will be the key .. you cant out-train a bad diet.

Kenty try googling couch to 5k online - well worthwhile and will show you a weekly plan. See where you're up to and take it from there, you will be running 5k in no time!

I used to be at that level of fitness and I found the most important thing was a good stretch before and after along with a slow jog/ walk at the beginning and end to cool down.

I found I did 30 mins to an hour a few days a week so wasn't so much distance rather than time. Each time I walked less and ran more..you see big improvements quickly..

lot of sense in that article...

...except the bit where he slates supplements, but tells people to look into ephedrine. While he's at it he should post a link to a site selling clenbuterol...
