Yeah, I'll be honest, I haven't found a need to go beyond the transmitter my Belt-CP came with.

    yep...I admit it.

Ask any full size yacht skipper to have a go at one of these puppies. They will fail. The concept of observing ALL yachting rules, and to try and steer the bloody thing from distances of up to 150 metres, plus search for those 'lifts' and to judge how far you are away from a buoy or another yacht...do I have right of way at that buoy waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over there? Can I sneak in between that yacht and the buoy?...*crunch*...guess not. "PENALTY". Have handed the controls to many a good skipper and they really struggled. They admitted that it would take 2 - 3 days (8 hrs a day) to master all facets.

It's intriguing, tactical, and downright heart pounding. I enjoyed it...but other factors weighed into my life (family, work, bikes). So..gave it away. Still have an AM and 36Mhz sets in the garage. Would just need to find the receivers and servo's and I'm halfway there. Not sure I would get back into RC yachting. Need a reasonable sized car to transport/race a 10R (my favourite) ...and $10k if you're gonna try for the big league. But they only reward you with trophies and sunburn. Pass.

    Helos interest me.

Ferris' guide for noobs is great. Exactly how I would start.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, FJ Steve.

BTW, I've always wanted to get into RC yachting, as I live next to moreton bay, and I even have my own jetty. But they're expensive as all buggery, right?

Cheers for the advice and links guys, awesome stuff.
Getting there, probably only have about 40 minutes of flight time behind me, but I am able to get it to hover about 3 feet off the deck regularly.

That is unreal, that's some serious collective he's using too by the noise it's making.
the sim i use is real flight g4.5 its got photorealistic backgrounds and you can download HEAPS of aircraft the only downside is that its a tad pricey, also when you look at buying a sim make sure you take into account mode 1, and mode 2 because you want to get the sim that your controller uses

fat chicks need love too , well thats my excuse

honestly though you pay what you get for.

although you may be able to find a t0rrent or similar, and use some hack to make it work ( i honestly dont know about that, im just coming up with ideas)

i have g4.5 and its incredible, it can help you do anything, i tried FMS and i found it is a bit simple and the physics arnt as close to the real thing.

also with choppers if you get them about shoulder height you wont get as much ground interferance.

There are aircraft Ready To Fly kits that come with a CD with a trainer on there for your particular vehicle. Personally I've found them unrealistic and verging on useless. If you want a decent sim, you need to pay the dosh. Personally I use a slightly older sim, Reflex, so the graphics aren't quite as good but the physics modelling is pretty spot on right down to changing wind gradients as you dip below tree lines and the like. You should be able to get a copy with updates for $100 off ebay.
Make sure it comes with a dongle though! Without the appropriate dongle, the software is useless.

As for my latest R/C venture, I'm trying to sell my PC-9 to fund the purchase of a Pawnee to convert to a scale glider tug.
