Anyone else have Reason 4? Just playing with it now, god it's complex
What MIDI input and keyboard(s) do you use?

I've got it here somewhere... haven't had a chance to crank it up since I went back to uni though...
"In all the human societies we have ever reviewed, in every age and in every state, there has seldom if ever been a shortage of eager young males prepared to kill and die to preserve the security, comfort and prejudices of their elders, and what you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots." -The Culture
I tried 2.5 a while ago, didn't really like the realistic layout (ie. routing cables, etc). Sticking with Ableton Live for now.
I use an Edirol PCR-500. Best value MIDI keyboard controller in my opinion, heaps of control and nice feeling keys. I use a bunch of other MIDI controllers too though (pads, mixers, etc.).
This is my first foray back into music in about 6 years, did a fair bit in the UK when I went back.
Obviously had a play with fruityloops and rebirth, but they don't count.
Ahh nice one.We need more musicians around here I reckon.
So what type of music are we talking here?
Haven't used Reason, used to use Sonar a fair bit....
Druu, been listening to Mogwai a fair bit lately, Autechre and Boards of Canada have been up the top of my list.
But knowing Crystal Methods new album is out soon got me back into the big beat techno that I used to be into.
Then I got a copy of C.J. Bollands discography, always been a fan of the Analogue theatre, one of the best produced dance albums ever, and a few of the songs on his album "Electronic Highway" made me want to knock up a decent dance track.
I know dance music isn't everyones cup of tea, but if you appreciate really well produced tracks, get hold of C.J. Bollands discography, or at least Analogue theatre, Electronic Highway and the 4th sign.
Here's a few of his tracks.

Can't find "counterpoint" anywhere. Awesome track.
Nice, I've been listening to a few random artists lately (I'm all about electronic/dance/head bopping stuff), more dirty sounding stuff though.
Just finished watching a couple of old Techno documentary's (We Call It Techno! and High Tech Soul), going to try experiment with some detroit inspired stuff when I can be motivated enough! lol
I don't know anything about it, but we run it at work in the music department. If you have any specific questions dude I can forward it through to the muso nerds.
Just fyi![]()
Cheers mate, just feeling my way around it at the moment.
It is fucking HUGE.
I used Reason 3.0 and then 4.0 with a Edirol PCR-M50 for about a year before i switched to Sonar. It has no audio support whatsoever which i didn't think was that bad because i had never used any other daw before, but theres no chance i would ever go back to it today. It also has no plugin support at all, The stock synths and effects are pretty good thoughi love the scream distortion hehe
Reason is a DAW of it's own pretty much, Theres no other like it. Was very difficult to go from it to something else, Most other DAWs are pretty similar.
Songs by Teedo, Citizen of ACIDplanet.com
The bottom 4 songs (Jump It, Egypto, Magic World, The Leader) were all made with Reason, and from Embrace upwards is when i switched to Sonar. You'll probably notice as soon as i switched that my songs got better, I would suggest starting out with Sonar so you don't get your mind bogged down with just midi and get hell confused about midi AND audio tracks when you switch.
If you got any questions though i'll see if i can remember, I think i've lost the install file though so would be from memory.

Hey Teedo I realize your using Sonar but you can rewire Reason through alternate DAW like Pro Tools / Abelton Live etc.. Makes it the perfect "doodle" plugin. I'll use reason first get the basis for the track and then find the sounds I'm after on my hardware or other plugins.
Desmo jump on Isohunt and look up e books for Reason.. should be heaps of hints/tips/tricks etc.. Also been haaaaaaanging out for Crystals new album! If you listen to their last album you'll hear quite easily snipits of Reason in it. Hell even Liam howletts used it to outline Prodigy's last album (even though it wasn't the best).

ya sonar has rewire too, i've just never wanted anything from reason after switching to sonar. . . . except that scream distortion![]()

i always found there's too many options with making music on a computer (re: your comment that it's huge). I found it was too hard to be creative when you're wading through tonnes of plugins and whatnot (i haven't tried reason though).
have you ever played with analog synths? funny how there seems to be a lot of people around who do music, motorbikes and computers hey..
