Captain Starfish hasn't needed doctoring for a long time and therefore has lost touch with childhood doctors etc.

There's a couple things I want getting looked at now though, and I wanna find a GP who preferably will fix my arm rather than charging it (together with my leg) and who might actually pay some attention to me rather than the clock and the list of patients remaining on his docket for the day.

Tried Duncraig Medical Centre for some vaccinations a few weeks ago and left completely pissed off at what a bloody Medicare rebate churning machine it was. Apparently healthcare is perpretrated there as some kind of accidental side effect...

So - any recommendations for a decent doctor, preferably either around East Perth or Carine/Warwick/Greenwood would be appreciated by the Captain.

    Thanks in advance.

The medical center at carine isn't that bad. I wouldn't trust the doctors there with anything reaaally important, but for general prescriptions/shots/etc, I just pop down the road and they take medicare. Seriously tho, the german doctor there tries to give you suppositories for everything though. Fucking creepy.

Yeah, if it was like the immunisations where I rang up and said "I want ADT, Vivaxim and the Polio shot, please make sure you have stock and give me a time to come down" I wouldnae give a toss about who I went to see.

This one's an ongoing elbow problem and a couple of other things, stuff starting to fall apart on me maybe. Not super serious stuff yet, but getting annoying.

My ex-wife was a violinist, about 2 years away from being able to join WASO, and a hockey player. Her thumb got crunched by a high speed ball on the field. A doctor at the field said not to worry, just a bruise. Three days later it weren't getting anywhere so she went to get a second opinion. The next doctor took one look, sent her off for x-rays, and that afternoon had her in with a specialist who said "13 fractures across the joint but the splinters have already started bonding in the wrong places - if you'd come to me two days ago we could have done something but now you're fucked".

She still (as far as I know) occasionally drags out the fiddle for a quick blast but any hopes of it becoming a career were completely, totally destroyed in that consulting room.

One of many misdiagnosis stories - but you get the point. So I don't want to go to some arseclown who's just been imported from Christ knows where, whipped through the special "Oh crap we don't have enough GPs" ACGP course and given a Medicare provider number to up the churn rate, to be told "just take these anti-inflammatories, these antibiotics (just in case) and see how you go" - then find out in two years time that something was starting to go wrong but is now seriously stuffed in there, and I should have got it checked properly two years ago...

I guess I'm chasing "Our family doctor for the last 15 years is near there, he bulk bills, he takes care of you and he knows his stuff" stories.

Duncraig Medical Centre is my local. My Doctor has gone to Clairmont so it is random now.

Last experience was when i called from Falls Creek to see who they recommended for orthopaedics and they would not tell me as i had to come in and see "their" doctor to get a referral even though i had one from a Doctor in Victoria!

In the end they are businesses and the purpose of a business is to make a profit. Not condoning but accept it as a fact, its all about money now!

I go to "GP on Beaufort" in My Lawley. Only been twice since I just moved but the doc was good. Guy doc. Not just in and out. Had time for a chat on both occasions as well as a lengthy consultation.

usually the easyer a DR is to get into the worse he is, most of the good Dr's who have built up a good rep have closed their books for new patients, which leaves finding a good new Dr.

Dr Nugawella is the GP I see on very regular occasions.

Drives a yellow Gallardo, Bulk bills and suits my needs. His Surgery is walking distance from my home.

I usually dont even have to book... but he has been my Doc for a long time.

Duncraig licks balls. They are too fond of money.

Hokoyo - I guess that would be Dr Simon French who moved to Claremont. I now go down to Claremont to see him. I've found him to be very good. He doesn't rush through his patients...which means he makes people wait.

I have never found a Dr that i like who bulk bills. I have tried to find a good one, but in the end i'd rather pay for it and get a good service. It is your health after all.

Parmelia medical centre has some good doctors, but it's a bit of a hike for you. It's an all bulk bill facility, because of its location it also gets some govt money for being in a low socio economic area. From memory Kwinana is one of the lowest socio economic areas in Australia.

    +1

Dr Ric Chaney has been my family doctor for more years than i can remember. Sometimes takes a few days to get an appointment with him though. But if you dont care who you see you can usually get in without much of a wait.

    Thanks all.

Due to the nature of the injury, I made an appt with Gary Claydon. Fortunately I got a spot the next day (this morning).

First consult he was good. Some tennis elbow (no, the other arm), a torn muscle in my calf - and fixes for both are underway.

When investigating the cause of the elbow difficulties I mentioned a new bike and riding posture and he asked "racer or mountain bike?" which prompted a laugh, as I was resting the arm on my lego lid at the time...

But apart from that he paid attention, got to the point fairly promptly and I was quite happy with the encounter.

Anyway, chalk one up for him - but keep going with recommendations so that, in a few months time, I have another opportunity to say "search is your friend"

    is that where she is?

I was with her father for 27 years until he retired suddenly due to health reasons. I'm at a loss for a good GP now
