Removing AVG toolbar.
I hope some of you find this of use.
After getting completely and totally frustrated with AVG's stupid safe search fuck in the arse toolbar interrupting everything I did, I proceeded to scour the intertubes for a way to remove this god forsaken shitheap browser overlord. It took a bit of digging but I found something. I trialed my findings on the latest version of AVG free which i got from here
I downloaded it to C:\Downloads> on my laptop. I then uninstalled the existing version that was running on my machine which was some corporate packaged installation. From this point on my inability to distinguish the difference between AVG and AGV caused allot of frustration, and trying to remember DOS commands after using Linux for the past while proved cumbersome and horrendously irritating, much to the amusement of my work colleague, but I got this little command sussed!
Open a command line window. For those who don't know the simplest way to do this is click start button, run, and then type cmd into the window that appears. Making C:\Downloads> as my working directory I whacked in this string and hit enter. (to make the working directory C:\Downloads> its as simple as typing cd\Downloads at the command prompt)
avg_free_stf_en_*.ext /NOAVGTOOLBAR /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch
Where the * type the string of numbers that the downloaded file was saved with. For example my entire file name ended up being avg_free_stf_en_85_374a1564.exe.
Continue on with the standard installation as there is no need to customise it, you already did that at the command line. If any errors pop up you might have typed the command incorrectly.
After the installation of the customised version there was no sign of the toolbar! Victory i though as I opened up Firefox, until I looked up at the search window in the top right corner to find that DAMNED YAHOO ICON! I spat the dummy.
Turns out that was a super simple fix. Went to madly click the stupid Yahoo icon in a rage and was pleasantly surprised to watch it disappear, at which point a menu of other usable search engines came up, so I selected my beloved Google search.
So there you have it. Enjoy.

dont you just choose not to install that part when you go through the installation options. pretty sure that's what I do?
BTW, avg are falling behind these days. Avira is a much better free anti virus
Uses less resources, has a more configurable scheduler, does a better job. The only annoying thing it seems to do is throw up a popup to get you to buy it, but it's a simple fix to get rid of it.

I chose to install it the way you just stated Justo initially. Then the bastard just appeared a few days later. I tried to deal with it at first and then decided to eradicate it. I'm fairly confident in this manner it wont be bothering me again.
Nice bike btw dude, I really really miss mine.

Mate, there's a command to sort that shit out for ya:
fdisk
You may like to take a backup and assemble your install disks first...
More seriously, how long's it been since you reinstalled everything? I always found about 6 months was the limit before I rebuilt the machine. Back in the day when I was using windoze, at least.

Its a work laptop. Its shit. Ive had it 'rebuilt' with their POS SOE several times it just gets worse and worse. I request a complete format and it built from scratch but it falls on deaf ears.
I Gparted, formatted and installed Win7 on the new partion and would you believe it, it works, briliantly! Just wasn't allowed to install any of the vital shit I needed due to corporate horseshit policy.
I'm expecting a desktop and a eee as replacements soon, which are Swift machines and not Astib, so I get to build them how I want to. For now, i just have to suffer and writhe with this expensive paper weight I have atm.
