If you really don't want to sell it privately....

If you are buying a new car then trade this in against the new one
If you are just selling it, try a few dealers, large and small, to see who will give you the best price
If you sell it at auction, you will get instant cash, but you will be stunned by how little you get.

You will make a LOT more money selling it privately, so I would look at your reasons for not doing so and see if you can get around them. Maybe get some help from someone who has done this a fair bit, or try selling it on here first.

Ex currently has car, she couldn't organize a root in a brothel let alone sell a car. Last thing tying us together financially.

I'd rather just have it gone and be done with it

if the price offered by dealers is an insult then I can try the private route and work around the problems.

Do you just rock up and see what they will offer? Or do you need to call ahead? It would probably be a saturday morning job too.

I've sold cars s before but don't want to waste my time with tyre kickers

You need to be a little careful of the wording of his adverts. He says 'He CAN pay the most' (because he is one of the richest guys in Perth), he doesn't say that 'He WILL pay the most'. Cynical - moi?

BOT - I would try a few different size dealers, including a Mazda dealer, as they may be more interested in buying it, than a non-Mazda dealer. Main dealers may have more money available, but if a small dealer knows they have a buyer ready for your sort of vehicle they may pay a little more.

Sorry about your circumstances, I understand why you would want to do it this way. Why not put a thread up on here first, they are a pretty popular car.

It's rather simple. If a middle party is involved, eg. car dealer or auctioneer, they will take a cut of the profit. It's the price for not having to do much yourself.
As to which one is better I wouldn't know. Have never sold/traded in a car at a dealer or tried to auction one before.

    Good luck.

Visit or call dealer and ask what they would offer. Go on ebay, set that price plus ebay fees/commission as reserve, then try to sell it.

If it sells higher, good for you.
If it doesn't, take it to dealer.

    - take to various dealers, get a list of pricing.
    - at the end, call each dealer back, explain that you've checked your budget and you need $(highest offer + $1,000).
    - advertise it on Gumtree and in Quokka for about $3-4,000 more than dealer's highest offer.
One owner. Only driven gently on Sundays. Sold to best offer. First to see will buy. Reward offered for safe return. Coming soon to a cinema near you. Available for a limited time only.

My waterbed broke this morning. Oh, I don't have a waterbed. Bugger.

Pay someone (a friend, a student, a coworker) $1000 to sell it privately for you.
They will sell it in a week for a reasonable price, you get most of the money and a few grand more than the dealer would have offerred.

    Hey guys,

So I took it to a few dealers to get a ball park figure then to john hughes and added a grand and got what I wanted.

Thanks for all the help, wasn't as bad a process as I thought.
    w00t!
