Sorting Photos and Video in Windows

    Hi guys,

So I have like a zillion photos and videos on my computer. I'm usually pretty good with sorting them manually and making up folders for events, bikes, cars etc but now its getting out of hand.

    I want to:

    • Delete duplicates (Photos or folders)
    • Sort into Year Folders (ie Events > Birthdays > 2010 > So & So's 25th)
    • View them all and be able to rotate, delete etc

Any suggestions on some good programs to try. Have all pictures on a USB HDD so can use on XP or Win 7.

    Cheers,

    KS

I'm trying out Adobe Lightroom. And as far as I can see, it's pretty powerful in terms of being able to manage photos and at the same time can touch them up really well.

Picasa has this very clever face recognition algorithm and once you have named all the people you know you can have photos grouped by person, or search for all photos with a particular person in them. Its red-ey correction is one of the best I've seen too and will correct group photos. You can also sync photos to Picasa on the web and share them to other people, even Tivo can view Picasa web folders.

Using Picasa 3. Looking good so far. Have so much to so and its just searching them all now.

If I want to move the catalog to another computer is it hard (Files and Face recognition)? Or because it is on my portable HDD I can plug it into my laptop with Picasa on it, select folders and it will pick it all up again?

Thanks mate I have used that before. Picasa has a duplicate finder too which is good.

Use the backup function built into Picasa it does the photos as well as the face recognition files and other stuff.
