    Spearos - which gun?

    Hey guys,
I put a post in The pub chat thread but thought I might get more response here.
Looking for a pneumatic gun and wondering what you guys recommend?
It'll be used around the reef with very little if any bluewater stuff. I've looked at the Mares Cyrano (out of stock) and am now looking at an Asso.
Will a 75 be enough or should I go a bit bigger? Not really too up to speed on spearguns.
    Cheers!

One of my old dive buddies had a Mares 970, it was a good gun and easily knocked over large Dhuies etc. He used cluster heads (gidge heads) and a shot to the head stunned the fish outright. I used a 110cm Sea Hornet rubber gun and normal spearhead and often had to fight the fish after similar shots.
The 970 was a nice and powerful gun and quite accurate. I would definately get the longest gun you can, they seem more accurate and stable.

For sure, although I think a 90 is going to be overkill for this sort of fishing after chatting with a few locals.
Most of it is around reef structure so the smaller gun is going to be preferred, tossing up between the Mares and the Asso, they both seem on a par with each other.

Well I ordered the Asso 70 and then got a call from the Mares dealer offering me a "demo" 97 for the cost of postage.
2 guns on the way, happy days!
