    The Stockmarket

    I through i start a topic for all the people that trade on the stockmarket;

I just recently starting looking into trading on the stock-market, and wouldn't mind to network with some fellow traders.

My idea for this topic, is for people to talk about what shares they are trading in, any tips etc

I'm currently using com-sec. i have some telstra shares (parents bought them for me ages ago).

Was looking at investing in some BHP (kicking myself i didn't get them when they were $24), does anyone know the min amount of shares you need to buy for BHP?

    G'day Mike.

There was talk a while ago that interested PSB traders would get together for a 'coffee shop forum' so that those interested could get together and yack about equities.

I blame Hewie for not following through with it. I call on all psb'rs to flood Hewies PM box with "we want equity coffee" and see what happens.

I use belldirect for trading and potfolio consists about 99% value investing strategy and 1% spec just for the fun of it.

As for BHP, a marketable parcel for every company on the ASX is $500 so $500 / BHP share price is your answer.

So on the eight day, after wasting time faffing about with unimportant guff like heaven & earth & the waters & sky & creatures [& having a wee kip] & man.... God created PSB (GenesiSX-R1000)

The coffee idea never went through and I think there were a couple of sites that popped up by users here but they no longer exist as far as I'm aware. I have and still am building BusinessWire.com.au for exactly the purpose you mention so the more that pop on the merrier.

I'm with Westpac for my long term investments and trade CFD's with First Prudential. Both not bad services although I have to admit I have been looking around at other alternatives recently.

Personally I trade Options on the US market. Options are 'mis-understood' and made out to be really risky... but aren't if you follow simple rules. You can also start trading with only a few hundred bucks.

If anyone is interested in including Options in the discussions I'd be up for it.

The options market in OZ is very limited - whereas the US is fantastic. I use OptionsXpress: www.optionsxpress.com.au - they really good. You can trade the US or OZ markets, in both stocks and options.

    Thanks for that Dubs,

belldirect looks good and cheaper than comsec ($15 vs $20); im going to look into it more and might just change over.

Its looking good for the bhp shares they have drop again today down to $27 im hoping they will go back down to around the $24/$25 mark but i think that is wishful thinking i am really kicking myself i didnt buy them when they drop to that price afew weeks ago

If you're new to trading, get yourself a mentor or do some sort of course. Learning to understand the Fundamentals and Technical indicators are a basic requirement before you trade. Buying and selling shares (or options, CFDs etc) without really knowing what you're doing will just end in tears and your money will be donated to the market (or Deej )...

thanks, what is people opinion on mining stocks?

i was told to be careful as in the us market crash mining stocks will drop and not recover.

i have been watching bhp for awhile now and thinking it might be a good time to get in around the $25 mark?

base on the past 4-8weeks watching bhp shares; they have been going up and down (not dropping below $24, and peaking at $30)

Michael, take advantage of dollar cost averaging if you are thinking of purchasing more, in a falling market your average buy price will work out lower.
