    Strava - Cycling/Running

i thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about strava to introduce it to people who haven't discovered its awesomeness yet and for people to brag about taking KOM on their favourite segment.

basically strava is a site where you record your rides/runs/swims/etc (with a garmin or the android/iphone app) and they are automatically uploaded. the site then analyses your ride/run to give you all your data but most importantly it checks to see if you rode/ran any "segments".

segments can be set up by anyone and as soon as they are set up there is a leaderboard for that segment and anyone who does it will go up there. if you are fastest on a segment then you are "king of the mountain" (KOM). it also tells you when you do PRs on segments etc.

obviously you can also follow people and see their rides in a feed like facebook and go in and check out the details of their ride and how they did on any segments they hit.

check it out, sign up, get the app, look on the site for some popular segments near you, smash them and then see how you compare. be warned though, its very addictive...

Yeah kinda, but not really. None of the points and achievements wank, just hard numbers.

I managed 49th out of 128 today on Reabold hill with 2:19. Not bad for a cycling noob on a dual sus mtb!

Pottz, its free. you can pay for the 'premium' option, but there is no need unless you want to see 'estimated' power....some time googling will give you promo codes to see you a year or so on the premium option for free...

Yeah the paid option just gives you a bit more analysis of your data plus access to more detailed leader boards that show your ranking by age group, weight etc.

Boo hiss needs Garmin or a fancy phone. I've got a cheap phone, and my Garmin Nuvi car GPS isn't good enough of them And I've got a Polar heart rate monitor that won't do either!!

    Good idea otherwise.

Looks good. I'm in. Surely someone else rides down Riverside Drive? That's gotta be a segment.
