Thinking of immigrating over to victoria

So, I'm thinking of relocating my life to somewhere over in the melbourne area soon, just for a fresh start really, and I was looking for some advice of suburbs to buy an apartment or townhouse in the $500,000 - $750,000 area that were going to be a good place for a young professional to make a start. Something like the equivilant of como or south perth or east perth, that sort of thing. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Not sure if it will fit into that price range, but I've always liked Beaumauris/Black Rock/Sandringham area. Even down toward Bonbeach and Mordialloc can be nice in spots.

Otherwise, if it isn't too far out of the city, the Mornington Peninsula is sensational (mostly).

I've heard that rumour actually... But there really isn't anything holding me in perth and I feel like I need to shake up my life and get out and change things.

Go to Geraldton or Meekatherra, it will shake up your life, change things and we will welcome you back next week.

I moved to melbourne a month ago so spent 3 weeks going to home opens (looking for rentals tho). Plenty of good inner city suburbs. Anything down chapel st out to St Kilda is good with South Yarra being the prime location. Richmond is good as is South Melbourne and Southbank. Lygon St is good so Carlton, Fitzroy and Collingwood. Outside of this you start hitting suburbia, like perth some with more life then others. Suburbs in the south east are all pretty good. Ive heard Brunswick is good but havent been there.

I worked in Melbourne for about 6 years before returning home. Like Rich says, South Yarra is a really nice spot, as are a few of the suburbs just south of the city.

An option for nice new modern apartments is Docklands. Multiple developments all went up at the same time, and came on the market during the GFC. The massive oversupply combined with a weak economy saw a lot of really nice apartments get sold very cheaply. Things have balanced out a bit since then, but there are still come nice apartments for sale for not too much, and most have pools, gyms, secure parking etc. If I wanted an apartment in Melbourne it's where I'd start looking.

Also some very cool converted old warehouse/loft apartments around Collingwood and surrounds, depending on what kind of thing you like.

I'd also try Yarraville and other inner western suburbs - its not quite as preppy but i think public transport is still pretty good.
You might get a little bit more value for money.
I guess it would be like living in Floreat as opposed to Subiaco - nice but not quite as trendy.
    17/123-129 Anderson Street, Yarraville, Vic 3013 - Apartment for Sale #107939191 - realestate.com.au

    Fitzroy etc is great too.

I moved to South Yarra 3 months ago. Its the only way to go. Also look at the nearby suburbs - Praharn, Richmond etc. Somewhere close to trains/trams is good for boozy nights

Actually it's not emmigrating, it's immigrating, it's the same exactly the same thing, but if I was emmigrating, I would have to have said "Thinking of emmigrating from Perth to Melbourne". Immigrating relates where you're going, emmigrating, to where you've come from

From memory the Vic police only shoot around 15 per annum, the crims are only slightly ahead of this, figure it's gunna take a while.

Loved St Kilda when we visited and I know Resist loved living there.
Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

Why not rent first and have a look at where you like it best? Gives you a better idea being over there, instead of spending a truckload of money and maybe not liking what you bought...
