I have a vehicle with a vin plate (17 digits, factory stamped) that says its a 07 model but there is a second stamping (looks to be done manually) on the same plate, it is stamped 12/06. Which stamping is the one to use?

W.A the forgotten state.
A December 06 build date on the plate would usually be an 07 model year, it varies from company to company, they can start building the next model year as early as June, go with the VIN for the model year as any different parts or features between models will match the model not the build date.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?
when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Contact any dealer for your make and quote the vin number. They will be able to tell you what year it is so you can order the right parts for it.
Or if your just selling it, then yes it's probably an 07 model made at the end of 06. Happens all the time.
I used to have a nice sig offering to shadow ppl. Now I have no sig...
when the VIN states the year it was made, a single digit, the 10th from memory, so 6, 7, 8 etc refers to the year, but then on the ADR compliance plate they will have it as the month it landed, for example my new bike was build late last year, but landed in OZ in January, and the Compliance plate says it was build 01/12.
Thanks, that sounds good and I'll do that check with the dealer too, cheers.
