Nope it is 100% Vivid Wireless. Their phone support told me many other users had called to report the same problem.
Was working fine, ableit slowly, with my 3g dongle just before I switched over.

Similar problems with Unwired according to Whirlpool

Is the Server IP Address correct? ie is that the IP address of the workstation you are trying to port forward to?

i like vivid; they provide massages, shade and couches even magazines on oak lawn. They also have massive balls, apparently are not attached and some of their publicity people were pretty hot. We even got to do stupid stuff in and on their balls.

damn the cold, i can't type properly.

I'm in Bedford. I thought I would get terrible reception as I am right on the edge of the pink zone indicating good signal but I get about 90% signal strength. 8mb down and 4up according to speedtest. ill post a link when i get home.

i did get the wrong IP address. i did change it but didnt get a chance to test Steam's connectivity. i thought it was the routers IP but it was supposed to be my machines.

other than the IP, do those port setting look right? im not sure about the wan and lan distinction.

3G and other wireless services often don't give you a public IP address. Effectively there is another router sitting in front of yours which has a public IP and that is shared between many customers.

I've never used Vivid but I've had this problem with 3G routers. Check the WAN IP address on the router, it should be under status somewhere. If the WAN IP the router reports isn't the same as What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address then you are behind a proxy/router.

    Okeydokey.
After having my IT professional mate around to fix my mistakes, I have the belief that Vivid are blocking the Steam ports. According to the Steam website, there are a few other culprits who do the same thing.
Not sure what luck I shall have getting an answer from VW because I have no faith the staff will have any idea what I'm talking about.

out of interest, cant find anything on the tech specs.
does the home gateway have RJ45 ports so that i could dump a router and a switch onto it for access for more machines?

    Cheers.

I can say that I know of a torrent site that has banned Vivid users from joining, I think Vivid might have either some data tracking or port blocking going on.

My boss has just one of these to try out. We cannot get port forwarding to work at all.
We tried 8080->80 on a local machine and nothing. Also tried Upnp with no luck.
I am wondering if the firewall on the device is also blocking the incoming traffic.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Not sure if wireless config is that much different to phone line adsl , but i havent needed to use port forwarding for a couple of years at least,

A lot of applications now days use Upnp or NAT-PMP to automatically set up port forwarding. Which is good if your ip address changes a lot.
We run an SVN server on a machine here and need to be able connect to it from remote locations, and as it does not support upnp (being a terminal app) we need to manually add a port forwarding entry into modem. This of course has been working great for the last 2 years on the iinet modem

It'll be a router on the Vivid network somewhere as mentioned above. You shouldn't need to open ports for steam unless you're running a server. Steam traffic, from the client is all outbound with responses i.e. the Steam server doesn't connect arbitrarily to your machine. Of course, if you're running a dedicated server, or setting up private games, that'll be different.
Remember half the cagers out there are below average drivers...
