    Washer / Dryer combo

    Hey all,

Does anyone have a washer/dryer combo unit? Ive only got space for the one unit, so i'm thinking that a combo will be better than going completely without a dryer. I very rarely use a dryer but it is handy to have for when you really need it.

Most of the reviews i've read online have been pretty average. People generally say the dryer is crap. Thats prolly something i can live with because as i said, i rarely use it.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with any particular units.

    Cheers
    Jono

yes i do, i have the lg 10kg top of the line job. it is great to be able to put a load on in the morning dirty and then get home to a clean dry load
however the loads take ages to do (about 5hrs)

yeah apparently its because its a condenser dryer rather than the usual tumble dryer.

I'm looking at a small one (prolly 6.5kg).

    Cheers

it also makes cool beeping noises when you turn it on, weights you load and tells you exactly how much time you have left, adjust water usage to the size of the load, is quiet, and even has a cool in built light so you can see you wash well wash

Also check out the 'Steam Cleaners' washers whatever, they also come in a combo, bit more expensive but from viewing they seemed better on electricity/water

We've got an LG 7/4 kg one, been pretty happy with it. The basic wash and dry takes about 4.5 hours to do. Just got to be careful not to overload the dry cycle, or else it gets a little upset.

was thinking about getting one of these

does 7 / 4 mean 7kg wash 4 kg dry? so if you have a big load in the wash you have to take some out before you dry?

and 5hrs....... thats a long time. seems an expensive choice for that lenght of time ?

been looking at these too. 4-5 hours seems ok to me. Current separate washer and dryer means ~1 hour to wash and ~3 hours to dry if there's jeans involved.

Roger that. And five hours does seem like a long time, but it's perfect for doing stuff overnight.

Unless of ocurse you have children, then you'd be washing ALL day...

Personally I looked into these also. But all the info I got suggested for the amount I use/need a dryer I would be better of getting a better washing machine and driving to a Laundromat if I needed to dry something.

Thats interesting and thats the first time i've heard that.

All info i've received says that the washing side of things is as good as any washer, its just the dryer which is a bit of a compromise.

I should add that this was like 3 years ago if not longer... More than likely improved since then

    Just as an update.

I picked up one of the LG 7kg/4kg washer dryer combos that people here have mentioned.

Harvey Norman are doing them on sale at the moment for $1099 which is about $300 off the RRP. They also have a scratch and win promotion which gave me another $20 off. They wont negotiate on the price but they will budge a little on the price of their extended warranties, so thats your best bet if you just have to try and get a discount off their asking price

So far its going great. I've done 3 loads over the last couple of days. Only tried the dryer once properly and another time just fiddling around. Despite many many reports from disgruntled owners, the dryer is actually fine. Yes it is slower than a regular tumble dryer because it is a condenser system. The trick is just to not overload it. But this doesnt worry me as i will rarely use the dryer anyway.
