    Water usage

    Yo!

We recently got a hefty water bill, 317 KL at our 3x2 with 2.5 people living in it, none of us are real water wasters so we were a bit confounded by the bill.

The meter readings are all correct and there are no leaks in our system.

Over the past couple days I have been watching the meter readings, it turns out that our automatic retic system had been running for 35,20,20,10 (minutes, zone) 3 days a week and using 3000L each time, it has since been adjusted to 10min per station.

It is quite a small place, recently built, no backyard, small gardens and lawn, etc, one of those ideal rental or investment places.

My question to you is, does 3000L sound like reasonable usage for the retic previously running 1.5 hours? I am slightly concerned that there may be a leak in the retic.

If you are in a similar sized house/situation and don't mind, would you be able to supply your usage, just for the time the retic is on?

    Cheers!

I flow tested a hose yesterday to estimate how long a pool would take to fill; got 20L/minute ie 1200L/H. Most retics are plumbed directly off the main so would probably flow more than that so yes it is feasible.

Oh and shouldn't it only be on 2 days not 3?

Yep, its a new place and the guys who set it all up did it wrong, we were just unaware the whole time as it turned on at 3am and didn't notice till we got the bill
It is now 10 minutes per station 2 days a week.

Being in the country and on tank water....2 of us usually use around 3000l a week. Over summer rises to around 5000l a week, depending on how much irrigation of gardens we do and how much the stock drink!
