In theory yes... it will upgrade from Vista. I have only done clean installs so not sure exactly what or how it does but it is suppose to.

Only issue is going from what version of Vista to what version of Windows 7. Checkout the microsoft site about "upgrading" and it should explain it.

I upgraded my home machine from Vista to 7 (both ultimate, x64) and it worked fine.

    edit:
much less changed internally between vista and 7 than XP and vista.

Vista -> 7 is similar to the transition from 2000 -> XP.

Same folder layout, overall kernel architecture is the same, driver model is the same, its just small tweaks to the code that make a significant impact.

XP -> Vista involved quite a lot of changed code, folder location changes, driver API change, etc - which broke stuff and caused upgrade pain. Thats not the case anywhere near as much with 7 as most of the problems have been resolved with regards to driver availability, and XP to 7 "upgrade" install is not supported

Though Launchy is cool... and probably better than the program start/search inbuilt.
That's kewl, and I have a little QL taskbar again, but I used to undock it and then have it autohide up the top of my screen. this won't undock. It's like they're trying to make everyone use Windows exactly the same way by giving us less options.

Someone told me Windows 7 is not compatible with the earlier Microsoft Office suite - that I'd have to get Office 2007 for Vista - is this true?

Hmm coming up against some slight issues with 7 - my ethernet drops out now and then.

Its most likely a driver issue with the 780i mobo - but never had the problem in Vista. Time to roll back a driver or two me thinks.
