Can be used as many times as you like as long as you're still within the terms of the EULA - ie transfers between PCs etc. (unless OEM version)
If online activations fails (because you have activated several times), you can always call up and speak to a human and tell them that you've transfered, etc.

You can use it as many times as you like as long as YOU own that CD and are putting it on YOUR PC.

By giving it to your mate your automatically breach your licence ... after 2 or 4 goes (can't remember) then you have to ring microsoft and explain why you need to activate over the phone. Not hard and they don't really care...i use fresh format as my excuse

how the hell can they restrict it? when ever im setting up a new machine its a fresh format with no outside connection until i turn off contact microsoft crap.

if you are wiping the slate clean how can it know you are re-installing again? keep in mind when i mean wiping it clean i mean deleting the whole lot including partition info.

Congrats on admitting youve never installed a "legitimate" non corporate copy of windows lol... Retail versions of XP require activation, in that activation it calls home to microsoft

Pirated and corp versions do not have the activation.
