Wisdom teeth, whos had em out?

So im getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow (yeah i know the thread post is a bit late) and i want to know how much its going to suck for me for the next week or so. What was the general anaesthetic like, how painful is it afterwards and how long before you can eat solids again.

    Thanks

How dare you take me back to that fuckin evil, blood soaked, plier crushing, vomit inducing, screaming, agonizing day I got my wisdoms removed...

    You will be wiser though.

*Edit* I am a smart arse evil fuck and seek redemption:

Had mine out in two sessions a few weeks apart. That way I could still eat solids chewing on the good side each time. Local anesthetic only. Didn't feel a thing and the heavy duty painkillers afterwards kept the unfeeling going.

Just watch out for food getting stuck in the "spaces"...tricky to get out without pain. Rinsing out with mildly salty water is the best method. Don't tackle with a toothpick!

The plier crushing bit was true for me though. Didn't hurt but it looked and sounded fucked! You know that sound when you take an old rusty nail out of a piece of timber...uh huh. The dentist had to put his knee into my stomach for bloody leverage...and I mean "bloody".

Good luck mate and milk it for everything you got with the other half!

Depends how hard they are to get out. Mine were a bastard and I was on heavy duty pain killers for a week. Some people's just flick out and they are fine in a couple of days. I had them done in the chair because some reckon that the dentist is a bit rougher if you are unconscious.

I got mine out about 3 weeks ago. Went in under local got them removed, went on the WNRMTB ride with the rest of the normal kids.

Aparently I have a higher than normal pain tolerance though.

I had all 4 of mine removed last year on the same day under general anaesthetic it was abit sore afterwards with a head ake but after a week i was back onto more soild foods. Its not that bad really you just need to make sure you clean the gums after eating as it will get infected.

    You will be fine mate!

I had all 4 of mine out under a general at the same time. When they were taking one of them out they broke the root, so had to cut the gum and generally fuck up the area, so that side was more painful. The other side was ok. But, I took some heavy duty painkillers for 5 days, then it was ok. I was eating solids (though carefully) after 3 or 4 days.

It really depends on how easy the teeth are to get out and how much damage they do as they are doing it.

Yeah i was told i didn't really need them out, but if i didn't get them out they might cause some grief down the track so im getting them out, doc reckons they will come out super clean, so im hopin in back onto solids by tuesday. On another note, i've heard the GA is like one minute your sitting in the chair, next your waking up all done, is this correct? Only ever had a local before so im clueless

Had all of mine removed a few months ago here Dental Implants Perth, Cosmetic Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Teeth Whitening, Invisalign Perth

I had the "sleep dentistry" thing going on. Basically you are concious but you will have no recolention of anything. All I remember was sitting on the chair, getting the injection. Next thing I am on a chair 1 hour later, ready to go home. The rest of the day was quite foggy.

While I had all my teeth impacted my dentist did a smashing job. He also did my brother at the same time and this was the results.

Eating fries carefull on the next day
Fish and chips 2 days after
    Pasta on the 3 day
    4 day chicken breast
    5 day pizza.

So I was back to solids straight away, no bleeding after the first day.
Gym 5 days after the operation.
    Didn't even use pain meds.

Overall it was a great experience, for me and my brother, he had them out 1 hour before me.

I am wisdom-less. Also got all my wisdom teeth out

Knocked out with general, woke up early apparently high as a kite & they let me go. No swelling, think it was a few days before solids

It all depends on the reason for the removal - crowding, impaction etc.
I had the two on one side removed due to crowding. Had one pulled one week, the other the next. Both came straight out, local anesthetic, weeping bleeding for few hours, all good teh next day.

Anything requiring a general tends to have a longer recovery due to bruising swelling, stitches etc.

Having a good orthodontist definitely helps.

It depends on how much damage they do getting it out. I took 5 out under GA. I wanted to, but was told not to skip the painkillers. Keep the sockets clean when you're able to - 2nd day+ (I used the syringe the dentist gave and Savacol, the moved to salt water when I'd finish the bottle of Savacol). Everyone reacts differently to GA. Some vomit, some don't. I was onto solids only about a week after. Ice cream, cream soups, yogurt the first few days, then oats, more ice cream, more yogurt, porridge after.

I had mine done in the dentist chair because I'd heard all the stories about how rough they could be under GA in the hospital. When I went to claim on health insurance after, I found out that the only way to claim Anaesthetist costs in full was if I'd been admitted to hospital, so bummer there. At least the extractions were covered.

If it gets dry or really painful, there's this thing the dentist can give ya which contains clove oil. I asked for it at my checkup. Nasty taste, but the numbing/cooling effect was just extraordinary and allowed me to sleep the entire afternoon.

Ah yes, now there's a memory.

Apparently the US Marines feel you have no need for anything wisdom-related (other than what they decide to pound into your head); as such all four of my wisdom teeth had to go. Additionally, if you fly (air crew) they require them to be removed. Lucky me.

One visit, locked in the chair. Two injections per tooth and two in the roof of my mouth. This was followed by drilling, chiseling and hammering away...one was so impacted with roots deeper than a porn star gets from Ron Jeremy that I needed another injection to manage the pain of that tooth being hammered to pieces and removed.

At one point the butcher (dentist) had his knee up on my chest to get as much leverage as he could to yank those suckers out. After that I had a couple of stitches (silk-so I needed a return visit to cut them out) in each socket to tidy up the gapping holes in my violated gum-line.

End of the session I received yet another military endorsed injection in the arm to 'help with the swelling' and told to 'get back to work'. And in the military there's no adjusted diet or foods available from the messhall; you get what you're given.

Dentistry has come a long way since them I'm sure...you'll be fine.

Get used to the taste of blood

I had mine taken out under local anesthetic, quite interesting watching the dentist with a big pair of pliers yanking my teeth out of my face.

I had 5 out too... Must be a bit wiser than the average punter.
Had an extra tooth on my top left side.

Went under GA, remember counting down from 10, made it to about 4 and was out...
Woke up with the missus collecting me from the day surgery.

Had it done on a thursday, was eating normally by the Saturday & back at work for the Monday.
Had a little bleeding from time to time and as the others have said, make sure you get all the food out of the now vacant holes in the back of your mouth, when you've eaten.

Had a bit of swelling and was a bit sore for a couple days, but a few painkillers and you'll be fine!

I had no problems when I had mine out. Granted I had it done by one of the best in Perth, but yeah no pain at all. Had a general so was knocked out. Numb for about 12 hours afterwards.

I've now had 11 teeth taken out in the chair or in hospital.

Yeah I had that sort of thing with my 1st one ~20 years ago as one had impacted into the rear molar and I was in heaps of pain, they reckoned I'd be too wasted to know anything while sitting in the chair Bullshit! I don't really remember the initial stuff but I do remember the dentist thinking I had a "flip top head" like in the ads and forcing my mouth open extremely wide, then KNEELING on my chest and having to yank and wriggle the tooth to get it out I didn't feel any pain but had a bruise on my chest after getting home and coming down and it was quite painful for a few days

I had the other 3 done a year or so after the 1st as the other lower was starting to get impacted so ended up going into hospital under general for that, woke up in a huge amount of pain and was spitting great gobs of blood out while laying in bed

Then the sadistic cunts brought me fucking steak out for dinner Thankfully the guy next to me swapped my steak for his icecream desert My mouth was a disaster for over a week, quite a bit of pain, heaps of irritating stitches and the the annoyance of food getting stuck in the hole left where the lower tooth was
