full time - part time - casual - or free - do you want a job - or a week or two's experience to pass/ finish your course - are you over 18 - can you pass a drug & alcohol screen - other than having a car license - or having caught a bus - or ridden around your suburb on a skateboard - do you have any experience in the transport industry - might be able to assist here - but - like - need a bit more info - pm me if ya want - better not plaster it all over this thread - &- i'll see if i can break someones arm at work - to put up with you for a few days -
Speak to the lecturers on your course.... they might be able to steer you in the right direction.
Failing that......speak to someone here

Got the same issue. Dad was going to hook me up with his work place but they have stopped building for the moment so I'm a bit stuck as well for on-site experience.
Ah well- We all find out way in the end. Let us know how you go though- who are you being trained by?
I'm doing it privately with a tutor based in Mandurah.

through seek learning. yeah hoping to get somethinggood luck to you
Thanks![]()
Will have my Cert IV by march and then all the other bits and bobs like first aid, tickets and courses and stuff on top so I should have traineeship by the end of march if I get a place with the people I want. All a waiting game really...
sorry to burst your bubbles. From experance unless you have experance in the fields you are wanting to work in your going to be facing some very hard days. experance in an industry is key as the people you are working around will hold no respect for someone who knows a text book and cant determin the difference between a bucket of poo and a bucket of clay.
in saying that I wish you well and hope you dont turn out like some of the arses we have working around us.learn from old hands if your not sure how things are done. Some of the best resulatipons I have seen have been from hsse reps coming and asking why we do a job they way we do and if there is a way we could do it that "might" be safer.
My dad has been in construction for 20 years or so, thankfully he knows a lot people. I did work experience in the OHS field two years ago and they seemed eager to give me a job based on my performance on the worksite. So fingers crossed they can give me a position!
Which reminds me- I need to get in contact with the head of OHS at that place again....

There must be a high demand for safety nazis... There seems to be hundreds of them on every site I've ever worked on...

there is and they are some of the most dangerous people i have ever met
I balance on one foot on the top of a 8 foot ladder, and lean over and work for an hour, daily.
You mad?
See this is where your already going wrong. Approching people "telling" them to use there PPE. Most effective method is walking up and saying something to the effect of nice safety glasses, to someone who is not wearing them. you have covered your duity of care and it is now up to them to rectify it.
As I mentioned earler without industry experance you will find it had to gain respect of people your there to assist carry out there job in a safe manner without getting offside with everyone.
as im not a educatated person (got to yr7) I have worked in many industries completed a trade and before the days of safety I was doing things that would make a ohs rep die now days as it was the way things were done. This year im going to be really testing my capibilites buy working towards getting 3 certs. cert 4 ohs , cert 4 training and assments and frontline managment. as I have the knowledge and experance to delever all 3 just no formal papper to show it.

It will be because you don't seem to get that workplace safety is an education issue, an experience and skills issue and not an equipment issue.
There is nothing at all worse than somebody who has zero practical experience in something telling a person with a lifetime of experience and all their original fingers, that they are doing something wrong and speaking to them as if they're stupid.
That's why people are going to hate an OHS rep. Because you honestly haven't got a single clue. The good ones spent time on the job, then moved into OHS because of their wealth of knowledge and experience. The kids with rubber stamped degrees are always and forever going to be despised, because they literally add zero value to the business.
But, ya know, good luck with it.
