Looks like the old emoticons (like : c r a y : etc) are fine, but animated gifs we link to elsewhere are FUBARed.

At a guess - is the new fandangled image cacher grabbing images willy nilly and saying "NUP, GONNA MAKE U A JPEG, BIOTCH!"?
