Just letting you know I havn't been resting on my larels, Im starting to get it all sorted. So far ive stripped the paint off the zx10 swingarm and given it a semi brushed ally look. Im still looking at way to protect the bare ally from the elements. Ive also started pulling the old bearings out and will order replacements next week.
The caliper carrier locater has also been lightly trimmed and I think I’ll need to attack it again.
I designed a new caliper carrier on solid works and its getting laser cut from 6mm 316 stainless atm. The new carrier will give me plenty of room to line up the rim on the axle. Then spacers can get machined up.
Next up ive got to rip the swingarm off the bike and suss out the pivot spacing, “the kid” kindly offered to machine the pivots down for me.
Finally I need to fab a new rear axle, Im chasing down some 4130 chrome molly with a 6mm side wall for this. I also need to find somewhere where I can get a thread put on the end.
It hasnt been the simple bolt-on project that I expected but im well and truly enjoying the challenge.
Special thanks to Bigtim, the kid and bertie for all the advise and help on offer (im sure you will regret it )
=P

Curious, a 10 axle wouldn't do the trick? If diameter is right the length should be right for the swinger.

oddly enough, the 6 uses a bigger lenght and diameter axle then the 10. Im guessing its to give the swingarm some extra strenght because its just a twin spar with no bracing. The 6 rear rim is also wider then the 10 rear rim.... hows that for strange.
SO the options were,
Try to sleave the 10 axle to bring the od up from 20mm to 25,
Repalce all bearings and seals with ones that had a 5mm smaller ID, machine a new cush spacer and machine a new bearing hub spacer
or
Grab some 4130, cut to lenght, weld a tab on one end and wack a thread on the other, voila a mew axle

Just ordered replacement bearings from kwakka, what b*llshit prices... $23 for a single cup end needle roller bearing, jesus christ. Predictably its not a standard size and there was no where else I could get them, thankfully I only needed two . Big props to pt.pete from cbc for organising the other bearings I was chasing, thanks mate

yeh Id love to get the frame painted black, unfortunately its my daily so theres not realy the option to take it off the street for a few weeks. Ive given up on keeping the swingarm at bare ally, we put allot of work through supacoat so the guys are gunna powdercoat it "precious silver pearl" for me. Also I cant find anywhere in aus that has 4130 with a 1" dia, hopefully im getting some 1" bright bar tomorrow.

Well time for an update,
Swingarm is fully machined, and is off to the powdercoaters tomorrow hopefully. The spacers are all sussed, as well as the bearings just waiting on stock to come into causeway kwakka. Ive also got the material for the axle sitting at work. However I can use the zx6 axle with a bunch of spacers till I get my custom axle made. Oh and heres pics
I still need to sort a rear line, so if anyone has a stock zx10 rear brake line or chain guards shoot me a pm. Appart from that its just a matter of putting all the bearings and seals back in, bolting her all together and playing with a couple of spacers.

What's the deal with the Barina indicators? I wouldn't mind doing something like that on mine. The stock ones are MASSIVE!!

Brendon, swingarm is purely for looks. Its been the one thing ive never liked about the bike and so I figured id ditch it. There are guys in the states that recon that they get flex in the stock swingarm, cause its a non braced twin spar. Ive never felt it personaly though. It is also going to lenghten the wheel base by one poofteenth (about 1 inch). As for the barina indicators, they got a licky, they just wernt bright enough. Im running led mirrors and flushmounts atm, wich seems to be a good combo.
