    '05 900 Hornet

So i picked up this bike off the for sale thread about 2 weeks ago from the nice guys at Elite Motorcycles as a ex-learner. I was originally searching for a 07 600 Hornet, but at the price i couldn't say no.

Bike cosmetically is what you'd expect of a learner bike. Mechanically it runs well and doesn't miss a beat.

    Known Issues:
    levers/pedals are all bent
tanks dented and looks like a golf ball
    bar ends
    brake discs front and back
    Rear cowl scratched
    Engine casings scratched

I've decided i'm going down the path of making it look like a fighter, whilst still making it able to pillion the wife around when i please.

So with a set budget pre-negotiated with the minister of finance(wife) i went to the most addictive place in the world...eBay

    List to this point:
    New front levers
    Headlight
    Koso Gauge
    Tank protector pad
    Slip-on exhausts
    Brakepads
    Braided lines front and rear
    LED indicators

I have also ordered new brake discs front and rear off of S3 Performance | ph 1300 937 935

they arrived today and im stoked with the quality and speed of delivery.

Not shitting on your ideas, just if the tank looks like a golf ball, why the tank protector... seems a bit past the point really?

Do you have plans for a full exhaust? Thats what stands out the most in the pics.

I think I saw this a while back for sale, was pretty cheap but the Kms are right up there?

ive bought a 2nd hand tank in good condition from motorcycle masters in kewdale along with a rear brake pedal. im going to respray the whole bike to hopefully the same white as the hannspree 600rr.

for the exhaust i cant afford a full system, so opting for just the stainless steel slipons. Delkevic is the brand.

yeah it has 90k kms on the clock, but being a learner bike and their source of income they are pretty well looked after. plus being a blade motor they are pretty bulletproof

Guess you can always get the headers cleaned up and rechromed.
Yep as a learner machine its likely never been above say 6000rpm and very infrequently at that.

headers i still haven't made my mind up on. was thinking of seeing how they would come up after a polish as its mainly grime and surface rust that needs to be removed. same deal with the front forks around the triple tree. if worst comes to worst,i don't mind the titanium/black header wrap look, but unsure as to the durability of the stuff.

will post more pics up after the w-end, as i need to ride it down to potato's paint shop to get a quote.

I had extremely rusted (read not much metal left) header pipes on my 94 cbr600. Had them blasted and ceramic coated in black by Competition and industrial coatings. They came up very nice-you could still see the pitting but only up close.
    Theirs no replacement for displacement

so after i put on the rear brake pedal, i gave a already scuffed area above the peg a quick sand and polish.

seeing as it was a quick run over, it still has some small lines of where the heel has been scratching. with a little more effort i should be able to get it to a perfect shine. think i might go this way as its a hidden frame, leaving the swing arm and forks as the largest pieces.

Beware the polished alloy. I had an r1 with polished everything and swore to myself i'de never do it again. It looks great i know but takes a hell of a lot of work to keep it that way.

so the panels went to Potato for painting the hannspree white(code from honda), also managed with the short time i've had so far to strip it down and start tidying things up for paint or replacement.

full exhaust off for tidy up before paint. not going the way of polished alloy on any of it now as my elbow still aches from the sanding. the y pipe hasn't been cleaned yet, just using as reference to the amount of crud that was on it.

got the wheels off, stripped the discs/sprocket off and are in the corner waiting for a sand before either paint or powder.

dismantled the swing arm so i could remove the towing tabs they had installed. gave it a clean and is ready for paint

    before

    after

got a mx bar and a few presents as of late so will post up pics when i get round to it.

Keep in mind you will probably have to get the speedo re-calibrated or what ever. Not like the 250's where you can just do what ever to the gearing and it won't make a difference to the readings.

Looking great though man, L O V E the Hornets. Will be keeping a close eye on this thread!
