07 CBR 600RR STM slipper clutch assembly

Thanks to Scott Elliott for allowing me to take pics of his STM slipper clutch assembly.

Its a straight forward job IF you remember where everything goes. Good thing Scotts an engineer, I was lost at the OEM clutch basket.

All ready for the new kit. The part covered in grease is the key part of the slipper clutch, while the OEM is one piece, this is one of two parts that allow the "slipper".

    The kit
NOTE: The two parts in the lower left and right of the pic are what allow the "slip"

The body of the slipper clutch is next, which is the second part of the "slipper".

A spring goes over that. (Scott will define the details and note the models hands)

The plates are then loaded in their order one by one. ( If you're clever with your hands, you could try playing coits here.)

The plates are then retained with a cover and tightened with 3 hex bolts.

Another flash looking spring is inserted like so.

Now this tool is handy, it stops the clutch assembly turning while you torque up the main retaining bolt.

From memory, the main bolt is tightened to 120nM

The final piece is then inserted and all remaining bolts are fitted.

    Ready for the outer cover.

A treacle looking sealant is what Scott has used and I'm told its good shi ... ummm stuff.

And time to seal her up.

The cover bolts are then tightened to 12nM.

Sorry Ollie, you'll have to wait till you're older to help out mate.

The good thing about the STM slipper is that it uses OEM clutch basket, clutch plates, thrust bearing and release rod.

You need a rattle gun to get the original clutch centre 30mm nut off.

What is that sealant you are using at the end if you don't mind me asking. I'm changing the springs on my zzr and was about to fork quite a bit of $$$ on OEM gasket. Is it a better alternative?

It's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

That's a neat trick using your third hand...

The universe likes speed. Don't delay. Don't second guess. Don't doubt. When the opportunity is there, when the impulse is there, when the intuitive nudge from within is there, act.

Yep it's Permatex Non Hardening Gasket Cement. The Honda doesn't have a gasket and is designed to just have a sealant. If a gasket is standard I'd still use a gasket. Buy some gasket paper and make your own ... much cheaper. Scott

The grease is there to hold the ball bearings in place during assembly. The grease dissolves in the engine oil later.
The oil and the grease all come from the same place initially. The instructions also say to use some grease.
