    1984 xj750

so i was lucky enough to get my hands on this bike for a great price. i was just in my car port trying to figure out the problem with my newly acquired xs250 when out of the blue i hear a voice greet me from the street. i turn to see a guy walking up my drive and asking if i was interested in buying another bike for cheap.

i asked him what he has and he told me he has a xj650 thats been sitting in his shed and is unregistered but everything works, all that was missing is the side fairing which hides the battery. so i asked wat he wanted for it and he said something like $100. so since he lived about 100m down the street i walked back with him to take a look and found its acutally a xj750r. he told me its an ex police bike. he was selling it so cheap as he is selling the house and car to go up north for work. so i went to the bank got the money and went back and wheeled my need project home.

small chunk out of side case.

paints condition is pretty nice, although there are some chips in it.

my plan is it get it back on the road and use it to finaly upgrade my licence.

so far i put new fuel in and after abit of playing with the choke she fire up but only ran on 3 cylinders, the number 1 cylinder has good spark but the header pipe is cold so im thinking the carbs are blocked. after i get a manual ill pull the carbs for a clean.

ive been reading all over the net and i couldnt find the specs of the bike. 1 site says one thing and one site says another . i read the bike has 80hp or bhp and weighs 240kg wet.

any info on these bikes would be much appreciated

    regards
    frogger.

I wouldn't bother doing much to it. Get it running, get her over the pits and ride it.
Bear in mind that you might be doing a few seals in the next few months if it's been sat a while and the tyres may need replacing.
    Nice score man, take care

Interesting and fairly rare bike, but be careful buying XJ750 parts for anything but the engine because in 1984 the XJ750 was dropped from the line up in most of the world, however Canada and Aust got a 750 engine dropped into a XJ900 frame.

    COUNTRY: AUSTRALIA

    MODEL NAME: XJ750RL
    STREET NAME: 1984 XJ750 Seca
    MODEL ID CODE: 45T
    FRAME ID: 45T
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
NOTE: 750 engine in an XJ900 frame. Approximately only 200 made.

it has 45T 000328 or something like that. and before that it has 1/84. and above it xj750r. id love to grab that manual stoneville. ill send u a pm tomorrow when i know what my roster is as its flat out atm with school holidays. cheers for the info all . ill hopefuly be going to help mattpack clean some parts for the bike he is building as he did me a favour and i want to see how a kero bath goes and then ill see about getting this thing cleaned up.

the fuse box is in crap condition and the wires behind the headlight are a mess. but for now my focus is the carbs.

Carbs on these are old and duplicated by 4. How many klms? High klms generally is a bad thing for carb seals. I was lucky to find a low lkm set that wasn't worn. I still replaced the shaft seals though.

    sounds like a plan.

just from removing the carbs i can tell ill need to get some new screws and bolts, im assuming id just have to take the ones in that i want and tell them how many.

I have advice on fuse box replacements, I bought 2 different ones (one EBAY and one Coventries) before finding a nice reproduction one out of the UK.

so the last 2 days i have worked on cleaning the carbs. they were pretty bad but the insides cleaned up pretty easy. after putting them back together and spending an hr trying to get them back on the bike , i put the tank on and hit the starter only to find fuel spewing out of some of the pipes. the little joiner pipes between #1 #2 and #3 #4 are the problem , there is a straight pipe and a T style pipe. i think i may have put them in the wrong spot. silly i know but im hoping someone can tell me if i have before i go pull the carbs off again.

another issue i have found is the bolts holding the header pipes on the head are so rusted that 2 snapped off without any effort so im guessing if i try touch the others they will do the same.
