So my brother bought a zzr250 and we (well mostly me) have been fixing it up. First on the agenda was to do an oil and filter change as there was hardly any oil in it. So we drained the oil and then removed the filter. Replaced the filter and O rings and cleaned up all the bits in the parts washer. Filled it with new oil and that was that.
There were quite a few dodgy repair jobs on it that needed fixing immediately. Who ever owned it before hand thought epoxy meant no need for prep work. I could peel it off with my hands. So i cleaned it all off, degreased the area and re applied the epoxy (Selleys Knead it). The sprocket cover was cracked and covered with epoxy. However it was bent and was pushing on the gear selector making it hard to move and it wouldn't return. So i again pulled off the epoxy, clamped it up in the vice and re applied the epoxy this time on the inside so its not visible from the outside.
The fuel in the tank was old and stale so we siphoned out the old stuff and filled it up with some 98. Started up first go. Runs like a new one.
It still needs a bit of work, mostly all cosmetic. The coolant system is going to be flushed and filled up with some new coolant and that's about it mechanically wise. The bike has been dropped on the left side so the fairings, mirror and a few other bits are a bit scratched up. These need to be re sprayed. Still unsure on colour choice but thinking of a gunmetal grey so it has a two tone scheme. Gun metal gray belly fairings and mirrors and then the silver tank and rear fairings. Should look all right, going to do some photoshoping to see how it will look.
Then it just needs a real nice clean up, new front light globe and its ready to hit the road.
Should be a pretty easy restore and should be done in the next couple of weeks.
