    '82 sr500.

Picked up my new project on Monday.
Got it in Mandurah from a guy who had a few old bikes. (Had an 83 Honda nighthawk with 4000 original km sitting there :O)

List of work he had done:
    -New seat
    -Engine rebuilt
-New indicators, tail light, side covers, grab handle, center stand, foot pegs
    -New stainless exhaust and header
-Added the dual oil feed so both rockers get adequate lubrication.

    So far Ive fixed:
It didn't like idling properly. So yesterday checked the spark plug. Wasn't even tight in the hole and was the wrong one. so changed it and did it up properly, idles sweet now.
Also reconnected the vacuum hose from fuel peacock to carby
    Changed the oil.
    Fixed the fuel line

    Things to do:
-Positive battery wire will be replaced with wire and holder for new type fuses.
-Big list of things that need to be powdercoated and rechromed.
-Eventually I will strip it and get the frame powdercoated.
    - Grease speedo cable
    -Fix tacho light
    -Install front fork rubber boots
    -Neaten up wiring and hoses.
-Make a skid plate to protect bottom oil return. (Original one is gone)
    -Install an oil cooler
    -Needs new clutch handle boot
    -Fix peacock seals

cool, i looked at this bike, test rode it...stalled it, couldnt get it restarted, as soon as i touched the fuel filter it fell apart and a bunch of really bad looking fuel came out....i pushed it back to the house, said thanks, but no thanks. seemed like a good bike, but i was now suspect of the "it's been maintained to high standard and regulary ridden." good to see it went to someone who can get it sweet.

Ha yer. I got stuck in a carpark the first day and couldn't get it restarted
The fuel line he had on it was just too big in diameter for the connections.
    Both problems fixed now
And the regularly ridden bit probably didn't happen because he worked in the mines and his wife couldn't start it lol, all good as it will be ridden heaps now.

I'm not jealous.. Okay I'm jealous.
But I always wished that the 500's stayed with spoked wheels.

Have done some work to get it running again. The carby copped a rebuild, and Gapped the exhaust tappet properly as it was sooo tight.
Going to start stripping it soon for the rebuild but has anyone had any experience sandblasting and powder coating a frame that is also the oil reservoir? Any tips or things to watch for?

you do have to be wary about getting any sand in the oil-in-frame bikes. i'd just make sure that you block off the oil ports pretty carefully before blasting. apart from that you should be pretty right to blast away!

what sort of finish are you going for with your powder?

gloss black is always going to look good. satin black might be a nice alternative if you want to go for something a bit different. a gloss tank looks good on a satin frame IMHO

looking forward to seeing this thing dressed up. looks hot as it is!

Some bits and pieces have started arriving.
Fork boots and alloy decomp lever

    - Cleaned out the front brake master cylinder, was full of rust and slime and all sorts of other fun stuff. Surprised it still works at all
May end up getting a new one/ different one. depends on if I am going to fit new front brake setup. Still looking at options.
    - Also looking at ditching the crappy stock Mikuni carby and fitting a 36mm Mikuni carby.

^ No, a lot of powdercoaters do not blast as well, so be sure to ask if they do

Did some work on the engine today cleaning it all up.
    Results of the polishing effort.

The frame is almost prepped. Just have to get the compliance plate off and find a plug to replace the dipstick. Oh and then find some money

Please, do not get it blasted and powdercoated, rub it down propperly and get it painted in 2 pac gloss .
This is the way the better restorers are heading.
Oil holding frame and sandblasting is bad JUJU!
