I have grafted a FZR250RR front and rear end onto this bike thus far, just collecting parts and pre-fitting before painting/polishing.
Yeah, nice plan. Subscribed.
Wounds Heal, Bones Mend, Chicks Dig Scars and Glory Lasts Forever...
Ok, Another part completed.
The 6mm polished rod ends arrived from the states today but to my horror the 2x LH threaded rod ends were finished as rough cast and the RH ones were show polished. I so wanted to do it right with a LH & RH rods so I could adjust as required but ended up having to use the two RH ones instead...sigh!
Brought some 10mm 316 s/s rod and machined, drilled and tapped threads for rod ends and then a quick polish.
Next trip to the engineering shop I will get 2x M6 s/s nuts to lock the rod to the tie rods.

Nice job Phantom, looks like a quality build with some great mods. Im in the inner west in Sydney and I was wondering who you are using for the engineering work as I may need some work done on my bike soon??
I do all my own machining and fabrication in house. I have a decent size lathe and milling machine plus mig alloy/steel welder suited to this type of work.
I also do all my own drawings non commercial. I wanted to set myself up independently so I don't need to rely on using works machinery etc. I once got a shop to machine a very basic part once where I live and the job ended up being unusable and I still had to pay a premium for a one off part.
Where I used to work all our limited prototype parts were always expensive and few people wanted to do the work.
Me on the other hand love spending as much time on the machines as I can and am very open to doing work for people that find themselves in the same position I was in.
If you need something made and I can help, let me know. I'm not wanting to get rich from it just cover basic cost's.
Cheers
Darren
Wasted a whole day polishing a pigs ear to try and make a silk purse...
So many marks in the swing arm and still not 100% happy but it will have to do for now.

Ok
Today it's 27 degs low humidity so it's painting day....yah
I'm using POR15 hardnose for the main colour but to get that through my airbrush I need a hot day so I can thin it to 15% to get it through the gun...today is that type of day.
Basic design brief for the bike is, if it's steel it's painted and alloy it's polished. (ps that swingarm is still bugging me...not 100% perfect)
What's on the drying rack today?
P9193632.JPG
Lower link yoke, link plates, chain guard bracket and swingarm end caps.
Painted items almost fully cured, fitted to bike and rear wheel hub painted.
Will polish the entire wheel to contrast.
todays effort...

sorry for the lake of updates but a lot of stuff has happened....long story for another day.
My 3 axis digital scales arrived for the mill and was a synch to fit except for the bloody Z axis scale....3 days later with massive headache and it's fitted and all working perfect.
Had to but linear shafts and bearings to make it all work.

So both wheels are now sand blasted, front fork lowers and disc rotors ready for painting when the weather gets above 25 deg....
Plan is:
White rims
Red fork lowers
Black callipers
Black disc rotor centres with red floating rivets...
Awsom work on the pollishing on the swingarm, I can't see what your complaining about, from the pics in looks near perfect.
I will definatly give you a holler when I need any machining done, that Mill setup looks awsom. My build is a slow one but I want it to be as good as I can make it, for a 1958 model that is, Iv'e done plenty of mods so far and plan on a few more yet.
Keep the updates coming, your build is looking fantastic.![]()
