Benno #03 & Evil Dwarf's New YZF750R Track Day Bike.

    Ok Guy's,
This one's been in the making for a couple of years now.
For those of you who haven't twigged yet, I've bought a couple of bikes from Evil Dwarf and had them shipped from Melbourne to Broome.
And I have to add right off the bat, that the quality/presentation and performance of his bikes is beyond compare.
The RD350LC & RZ350YPVS where like brand new bikes. I couldn't have been happier when they finally arrived.

We have, through PSB become Great Mates and have spoken about building a track day dream bike, "one day" for a couple of years now. This is the bike I had in mind and we used this pic for Inspiration.
    .
We'd looked a several bikes for sale for quite a while and always found a few issue's and or circumstances (cash flow) that prevented us beginning the project.

OK, let's get the ball rolling again.
We bought the bike of a bloke in NSW near Bathurst, he'd bought the bike from another bloke who'd removed all the lights and indicators and did a couple of track days on it, it'd been a low km road bike prior.
The bloke I got it from had also done a couple of track days at Winton on it. So I'm assuming it's still a relatively low km bike. He and his brother built up similar bikes to each other only his bro's bike was done in the Yellow Anniversary colors.yzf collection.jpg
It'd had the race glass fitted and painted and been dyno tuned to suit the the pipe, and was still making an honest 110hp all day long.

After, all the negotiations where done and dusted.
I had the bike delivered to Evils place for an honest evaluation of what we'd just gotten ourselves in for.
It was all I expected it to be, for the coin paid, and if we'd left it as it was. I would've had a good honest YZF750R to take out and fang about the Island.
There was a couple of issue's like a faulty fuel pump, which was gonna be a $6-700 replacement item.

Now this is where the expertise of someone like Evil Dwarf comes into play.
Don't ask me how he did it, but he got the internal fuel pump sorted out for a relatively small outlay.
We now started to talk about what mods and upgrades we'd consider.
It was always meant to be a track only bike, so we could finally start thinking about what we could remove and what should be left on., this is how it arrived at Evils place.

This was one of those bike's that came up for grabs when it wasn't really economic for me to go ahead with, but couldn't be allowed to slip through our hand's.

This is when (Guy's) having a understanding partner is an absolute God Send.

I'd like to put a shout out to all those Ladies who allow us blokes to feed our need for bikes and understand what they mean to us. There should be more of you, but you are a dieing breed and should be bottled.

My Mrs has been behind every purchase I've made and I believe (like to think) she get's as much of a buzz about finding and buying that special bike as I do.

I always nominate her for "WOTY" Wife of the Year, and I know all her friends think she's Mad and don't get why she spoil's me so.

I just "LOVE" her all the more for being not like those other chicks who say, how may F#@king bikes do you need. You can only ride one at a time. Why do we have to pay rego on so many bikes. Etc Etc Etc Etc Etc.

    Here's to you...

    OK,
    Back to bikes.
    I've owned two YZF750's, the first a 93 White/Magenta.
Yeah, I know it was Pink.

But, I bought it off a Salesman a bunch of us liked and trusted, who now is Troy Corser's Crew Chief. Tom Larsen.
I did many Track days on that bike around Mallala and always remember how I just fit that bike and at the time I was 21 and thought they couldn't make bikes any faster.

The second bike was purchased after a stupid crash, I low sided the "Pink Bike" heading into a roundabout when a big Maori bloke on a pushie, got up off his seat and raced me from the right for the roundabout. It was one of those 6.30am mornings, when the sunlight strobes through the tree's and I barely had time to even see him.

    I had two options.
Run right into him, or try and brake. I was already prepped and leaning, and as soon as I touched the lever the bike slammed me into the road.

I hung on for too long and got ground up on all the high points, elbow's, ankles & knee's.

Rookie mistake I know, but it was that or crash into him. So was wearing shorts and a tee shirt.

He did stop and say, "thanks Bro, you could've huut me", I did suggest he get back on his bike and fuck off cause I was now considering it.

So that led to me trading it on a 96 YZF750 in the Emarald green color scheme.yzf750r.jpg
I rode that bike for a while before selling it and me and the Mrs went travelling the country with Broome our destination.

In trying to keep the story short,
We eventually made Broome our home and went with out a bike for a few years.
The bike bug was always nagging in the back ground and once we'd gotten ourselves settled.
I started looking for another bike. I'd had a 99 R1 before we moved and that was 1st on the list.
So I bought a low Km bike in much the same condition as the one I'd sold.

That then led to a drive/obsession to buy all the bikes I'd always wished I'd owned.
So, I went about finding them and that led me to meeting Evil Dwarf.

A 99R1, an 82RD350LC,an 83RZ350YPVS an 88RZ250YPVS (project bike) and a couple of others and I was on my way to having a reasonably nice collection of Yamaha's.

That's when I started thinking about a track day bike.
The bike I'd always felt the most comfortable on was that white/pink YZF750R.
I remembered watching Colin Edwards racing one and I found that photo.
That was it, I had to have one.

So, there you have it PSB.
I'm now adding another bike to the stable and this one may just be my favorite.
With Evil on board I was pretty confident I'd be happy with the final out come.
Here's some of what he did with this bike.
    ;ljkhg.JPG002 (3).JPG005 (2).JPGBennos YZF 54 (1).JPG
All bolts converted to socket heads for ease at the track.
Nylon bar ends, 40mm Jack up Kit to put more weight on the front end and a custom chain guard.

I've noticed that you also changed the front calipers to blue-spot R1 versions, from the original 6 spotters. I (like many others I assume) really get a buzz out of seeing something like this come back to life. Makes me want to do some tidying up on the old RG500. Not for the track mind you!

Correct Rob, the 6 Pot's were pretty good in their day.
But years on they had a tendency to warp the disc's and no one wants that.
Also, the R1 calipers and braided lines will bring it up to date in the braking department, and they look like they should be there.
We'd found some info on the conversion, and Evil tackled the job head on.
Apparently it was not an easy conversion and the info said that you needed to trim the pads with a grinder to avoid the disc bobbins fouling.
Evil got the job done without the need to. Top Work again.
