    Budget for rebuild

    Hi guys.

I just wanted to put it out there. I am in the process of considering rebuilding my 2005 SP2 and was wondering what a reasonable budget might be.

I am considering quite a few expensive bits and pieces to improve performance and handling, like Ohlins suspension, brembo brakes, BST rims, to name a few. This quick calculation was putting me up in the vicinity of 10 - 15k before I even budget for an engine rebuild.

Is this stupidity? I mean when you consider I bought the bike for $14.5k and now I'm tempted to throw nearly $20k at it, I might as well have just bought an Aprilia RSV4 Factory to begin with ?!?

Depends on what you want really. Is the SP2 something you want to keep? Is it that you just want it to be the best bike it can be? Or is it that you're trying to make it into something it's not? I've spent bucketloads on my 996, but I never intend on selling it. I just want to improve on what's already there.

Does the engine need a rebuild? If not, then don't do it. Start smaller and work from there.

Also need to factor in that what ever you think you're going to spend, it will not be enough!!

I am just looking into the same idea with my 2000 SP1.

Was quoted over 3k to get it re-sprayed............yowsers.

I will be spending a lot of $$$$ on her but I'm not that worried as I will never sell the bike.

I guess I'm never one to have anything standard or the norm really. The motor is still good and strong. Has only done 34000kms. Was merely looking at extracting a few extra ponies whilst freshening it up at the same time

I'm never going to sell the bike. Don't know if I should even worry about the Ohlins to be honest, just looking at what I can do and how much it's going to set me back really I know now it all depends on how much I want to spend
