    Crackers ZX9R reassembly

The final part(s) of my '00 Ninja cleared customs and was delivered this morning, so together with my purchase of Quaka's (Hi Mark!) black/dark blue version I can now get going and try to produce a good example of one of my all-time faves

I'd forgotten how many miles i'd put on mine before I took it to bits - not that many!

All i've done so far is to bolt on some of my bike (fairings, tank, levers) to see how it looks. I like kwaka green but not on the rims which was one of the reasons I went for Mark's bike, plus his Akro slip-on and new rubber! I'm pretty stoked with how it looks even now..

I presume the back-end arrangement as it is atm would attract some unwelcome attention...

not neccesarily, i mean no, it's not 100% 'legal' i guess, but why preempt it? chances are you won't be punished for it

Hang on, I'm a little confused...

    did you

    - Own a ZX9 overseas
    - Pull it to bits
    - ship it to yourself in Aus
    - buy another ZX9 over here
    - Transplant your old ZX9 into the Aus Registered frame
    - Also own a 954

    That is rather awesome.

(Though I do have to ask, why not do it as a personal import if that is the case?)

Yep. I owned it for 11 months not the required 12 so the personal import scheme was a non-starter. I made a few half-heated attempts to flog it but got sick of the "it's not really what i'm looking for but i'll give you #$%*@ for it" so took it apart and sent it over in 3 consignments each on different ships.

Actually 4 different vessels because I packed the swingarm, rear cowling and assorted nuts bolts & washers in my suitcase when I flew back.

You genious... So ''technically'' speaking if I buy a bare Australian frame, buy an overseas bike, transplant everything to the new frame, that would be able to be registered?

    that opens a few possibilities...

I don't see why not - I almost went down that avenue as a guy over east had a "good straight" frame and wanted $1000 for it but I couldn't ascertain whether it came off a repairable bike. I would expect that when I come to bolt on my engine it will invalidate my insurance as then the bike isn't what it says it is on the licence doc.

Ive fitted the swingarm and forks to the engine with the idea of starting it to see how it runs, having been on its side in a crate for around a year.

Can''t get any lights on the console. I've traced and reconnected all the wires etc and gone to the extent of putting the complete bike next to it for comparison purposed to see if i've missed anything. Any suggestions please...?

Fuse box looks ok - and in better nick than its working neighbour. I've got the Haynes manual so it looks like i might actually have to read it

    A bit stuck atm

Well i've removed the fairings from the donor bike to check fuses and connections etc and it all looks like-for-like except one starts and t'other doesnt

I've bought a circuit tester but dont fancy poking holes in the wiring loom and elsewhere, and to be honest I can't see it being that as I never really ripped the thing apart in the first place. So if anyone's around SOR or vicinity who could cast a practised eye over it all i'd be grateful! Mince pies/beer/cash/latest UK 'Bike' mag/ pat the dogs offered in compensation. Happy New Year to all..

On these there is a second ignition feed (to the ignition black box) from the ignition switch, on a grey wire by memory.
This has a 100 ohm resistor built into the switch. The grey wire should have about 9 volts on it, ignition on. Without that it will not run.
The connections inside the ignition switch that go to the resistor have a habit of failing.

I have a hand drawn diagram at work for the ignition circuit, with test voltages. The test procedures in the manual are misleading to say the least.

This info is based on a system I dissected and ran on the test bench. (by memory it was the sameish model)

Would that explain why there are no lights on the console?

No, that info is only for a no spark situation.
No lights at all on the console should be more basic like fuses, connections, ign switch or grounds.
