Egay for the flasher resistors. As usual the ones I noticed where 1 tenth of the shelf price in the shops. I serched for led resistor or similar.

2pcs 6 Ohm 50W Turn Signal LED Bulbs Load Resistors:eBay Motors (item 190346810791 end time Nov-10-09 19:34:57 PST)

OOps, there are the specs if you want to go to dick smith and buy the right type.

Egay hay? I think I'll try and avoid that website, who know what for sale there

    hehehe, no offense intended debaser.

Lorenz I reckon the white ones look good but wouldn't they get marked?

I'm a sucker for flames and skulls, check these out.
PS. I'm a newb to the whole mechanics, custom & motorbike scene. I have the brain to understand and learn how things work, that is why I'm here. Plus I am super excited about getting my bike sorted out

Good find Debaser - just bought the resistors, only about $8.50 landed:

T4Roy, the skulls and flames don't really do it for me sorry - am going for more of a clean look with this project. Cheers for the suggestion though.
Going out to the workshop today so will hopefully make a bit of progress.

Made a bit of progress today.

    1) Fitted the axle sleeves that I got machined up (thanks Dave "Redbeard") they were the perfect size and were super easy to fit on one side, where it was simply a matter of taking the old out and fitting the new in.
The right hand side fork was a completely different setup though and had the hole where the axle went through machined out, instead of having a sleeve inserted. Not sure why they did it differently on the same set of forks...

Anyway, we just had to bore out the hole to be the same outside diameter (22mm) as the sleeve I had made up, and it fit snugly in.

This mean the front end could be put together properly without moving around and enabled Rastas to make up a bracket to fit the DR caliper to the Katana forks:

This is a rough take on it and he will use these dimensions to make up a nice pretty one.
Next I just put on the Vortex clip ons to see how they fit (perfect this time):

At this stage we were thinking about what to tackle next when we came up with an idea to mount the speedo and cut out a few steps to complete the bike:

I am going to mount the original speedometer in between the old bar mounts and attach it to them with a custom aluminium plate bracket which is secured through these bolts holes.
I will then fill the holes where the old ace bars went through to clean it up.

Speedo and LED's for neutral and indicators can then be mounted to the plate below the speedo.
This killed a few birds with one stone, as I think I can get away with having the top of the forks come through the triple clamp (level with the flush mounted speedo) a few inches which will mean the front end is lower and I don't have to cut the forks down at this stage.
It also meant that I do not need to go to the expense of getting a new billet triple machined up.
    Good times.
Now I am just going to take the bike back to my place later in the week and put it together for a full mock up and also do all the electrics. I will then identify any final fabrication work I need done before painting and final assembly.

    Stoked.

Actually, if anyone knows where I can get a good quality smaller size speedo (cable driven) I might go that way, as looking at these pics the speedo looks a bit too big...

I dont want it to be so noticeable.

Edit: Just found this bad boy on eBay:

60mm cable driven...might get some more details...

front end is looking gooooood! definitely agree that a smaller speedo would be the goods. maybe not too small if you're just running a single gauge centre mounted but a bit smaller and cleaner would look good. i know vanem have a range of daytona gauges but the only question would be whether the drive ratios are the same or not. i have no idea whether most bikes use the same ratios or not?!

good to see you making some serious progress mate! keep it coming

Hey man does it have to be cable driven? You have more options if you use electric.

Hey Tbird - just ordered some nice CNC machined ones in black from the UK, they are LED's too and got them delivered here for around $70. Cheers for thinking of me though.
I had seen those hammer indicators a fair bit before but were just a bit too pricey for me, plus I would have painted them black anyway..
I have not had any luck finding a speedo yet, would love to go electric/digital with a hall sensor pick-up but can't find any good ones for a good price, they are all around the $350 mark!

My next problem is I don't know what the ratio of the cable driven standard DR speedo is, so I don't know to make sure that if I get a nice on off the net that it will be calibrated correctly...??? Any idea's?
I have tried looking on the web for details about the standard ratios but can't find anything (most of the ones I have looked at have a drive ratio of 2:1???)

All my searches keep leading to the same place - Sigma digital speedometer which are a bicycle speedo with heaps of different functions.
Only problem is they aren't continuously hooked up to power on the bike and do not have a continuous backlight...
They seem super easy to hook up and use a magnet pick up, but I wonder if it will look like shit on the bike..??

^^ Had a look at that one but the read out probably has too much information and my bike only has the basic info outputs.
I am thinking all I would need is speedo, trip meter and odometer, and then I will sort out some LED's for neutral, ignition and indicators...
I am gonna grab the bike from the workshop this week and start doing the final mock up before paint, still a few little bits to organise...

Maybe a bit small. The gp styles have a huge amount of features, two temp sensors etc. All ready to go and have a pickup for any bike to have a rev counter. A large analogue type would look awsome, I got mine for 160 aussie delivered.

Check out vanem for speedos. My POSH 180km/h one is really nice quality and cost about 170.. Cable driven also. They do quite a few different styles.
