    Erion Racing Fireblade

Hi, and welcome to my thread.
This is a thread about my motorbike, a 2001 CBR929RR Fireblade, in the Erion Racing colour scheme.

In the interests of completeness, I'll start with a little history.

The "Limited Edition" Erion Racing Fireblade is mechanically the same as the standard 929, the differences are only cosmetic. Apart from the distinctive colour scheme, the Erion has a black frame and swingarm. According to mcnews.com.au, only 190 were imported into Australia, and it was available at the same price as the standard models. The model was released after the Erion Racing team won the AMA Formula Extreme Championship in 1998, 1999, and 2000, and the 600cc Supersport Championship in 1999.

I bought it in Sept 2008 with about 32,000 on the clock, and I know at least one previous owner was keen on the odd wheelie, so it's a pretty good bike for getting up to that sort of mischief, in one of my favourite ever colour schemes, and at the right price, I couldn't say no.

So it came home with me (admittedly, on a trailer - it threw the bone dry chain on the ride home), and got what was probably the best wash I've ever given it. It had some damage from a previous crash, as I understand, it smashed an old ladies hip

I fixed the couple of niggly little problems it had and went riding lots and lots

Ive recently got my hands on one of these and had planned to build a stunt bike out of it. But after reading your write up and from what others have told me, i think i may have to rebuild it back to original or pass it onto someone that will appreciate it and do it justice. I dont think these come up for sale very often. If i do end up stunting it, any parts you need?

The Erion's are really just a paint job, albeit an uncommon one. I wouldn't stress too much unless it's still in awesome nick

So I did a few little things to clean it up...

    Some stickers here and there...

    Christmas came and went...

Then I got this idea from a Fireblade forum, click here for my original thread.

I also fitted the klaxon I bought some time previously, click here for my original thread, and see below for a video of it in action on the ER6.

I replaced the grips and tank pad and a few other items, but I couldn't escape the hard fact that I had bought a Honda, and with the Honda comes a Honda charging system.

    Took a few of these...

    Before I found this...

Then all was well until late last year when I got a dangerous driving charge, and a yellow sticker to match. I disconnected my brow lights and bodged up a fender, then took it over the pits, just in time for my three month suspension to kick in.

While I was on my enforced cycling holiday, I ordered a few bits off the net, the first being some mirrors with indicators from Cyccon Sport in the Netherlands. It took a while to find a decent pair that weren't dodgy HK fake carbon, and these were a bit pricey, but I think well worth it. Now, it originally had only flushmount indicators up front, and small ones at the rear, they went back to big chunky ones for the pits, and stayed that way until the mirrors arrived, with a free pair for the rear.

The new ones combined with the old flushmounts mean I don't have to worry so much about my indicators not being seen, and being all regular bulbs means no dicky flash rate, and hopefully no hassle from the cops. The new shape of the mirrors compared to the old meant I lost some mirror out towards the end, right where you want it, but such is the price to pay for cool looking parts

Next I ordered some LED strip lighting from Oznium, and after a bit of consultation with TurboR1, I had the headlight out of the bike and into the kitchen.

It's a pretty simple recipe really,

    About 10-15min on 120º,

    Pull it apart,

Install the lights and run the wiring out through the old led holes, then seal it up.

Done! You'll have to forgive these photos (and a lot of the others) they were all taken on my phone, and some things can be hard to snap with such a simple camera

This then made the old stock bulb look quite yellow and nasty, so a single HID lowbeam kit was bumped to the top of the list. After searching around a bit, I bought it from a Perth based company, Delonix Radar, good price, and arrived fast. I emailed off a query on a Saturday and received a reply within minutes, the guy even took some photos with a tape measure to help convince me of the sizing It is an actual H7 sized bulb, some kits give you a H4, which don't suit the housing, and throw out the light all wrong. It was an easy install, just plug it all together and find somewhere to double-sided tape the ballast. I chose low beam only, because of the warm up time required for HID, so I couldn't "flick" my high beams on.

No photos unfortunately, I ordered a 5000k bulb (colour temperature, click here for more info), as I wanted white, not something creeping into the blues. Alongside the HID light, the LEDs look a little blue, but not too far off. Light output is great, and still has a good cut-off at the top of the beam. My only gripe is the light thrown straight forward from the bulb itself. A standard globe has a little paint on the tip, so no light goes forward, just off the reflector and out. The HID doesn't have this, so it can be a little glary. Apart from that, brilliant.

That about gets us up to where the bike is now, just over two years and ~36,000km on, but I'm not done, in fact, I have a few parts ready to go on in the not too distant future.

Some tiny white surface mount LEDs from RS Components, hmmmm I'm sure I can find somewhere to put those.

A FactoryPro Evo Shift Star kit, bought from a PSBer, click here for an old thread about them.

And last, but not least, a VFR800 Swingarm, with VFR750 eight-spoked rim.

Yes, it's heavier, weaker, blah blah blah, but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I won't be talked out of it, so shhhhh.

Turns out the kind folk at the ATO were a bit greedy last year, so I was finally able to rush out and buy it. Unfortunately, the fitting will probably take a while, as it's my daily ride, so I will have to be clever about working it all out. I have a spare 929 swingarm at home to compare, and a few in-depth build threads online to refer to, so I hope to get it mostly figured out without pulling my swingarm out of the bike just yet.

I hope that last bit got your attention
