F-SAE Project
At the moment I am currently studying Motorsports Engineering at ECU up in Joondalup and our team is part way through build our first Formula SAE Racing car.
The car uses a CBR600RR Engine and Gearbox to propel the car to 100 in about 4secs. It is 100% designed and manufactured by Motorsports Students and is due to compete in competition later in the year.
Our current problem lies in our braking system. We have a pair of front calipers off a ZX-6R which require a rebuild. As the calipers where bought off a wreckers were unsure of the year and what brake rebuild kit to source. We're fairly sure the calipers are off an '03-'05 as we were told its a 636 and they're only a 4 pistion caliper. Can anyone help us!!

Give me 5mins
As said the calipers are radial mounted which suggests to us more then likely they are '05.

More than likely.
Personally, I would have gone for Yamaha calipers...

At least they're not from a ZX-10

They look like the ones I have on my 03 ZX6RR.
The calipers from 03 to 05 (at least) are the same (to my knowledge), it's just that in 05 they changed to larger diameter disks so the fork bottoms are different to space the calipers out on the bike.
Take a caliper in to Kawasaki & they should be able to match it up easily.
While ya there get some EBC HH pads for them too. Last twice as long as stock pads for just a coupla extra bucks, great feel too.

Cheers mate, where taking them into Kawasaki tomorrow to verify and to source a rebuild kit for them. Are there any places globally that would do rebuild kits cheaper then a local dealer?

Are you positive they need a new seal kit put through them?
I've pulled gummed up calipers apart before, and found that all they needed was a clean to get rid of the brake fluid "jelly" that builds up, and to have the pistons polished to remove caked up brake dust. The seals have been near-on perfect, and worked fine after putting them back together.
I just say this because you've mentioned cost is a factor.

what style hubrights are you guys making. We did some research and found the mounting style and hubright shape to suit radial mounted calipers were heavier.
We only ever ran brembo rear brake calipers all round. TBH unless your using a single disc on the rear 4 pot is overkill.
Also 4sec 0-100 is slow. in detroit 2007 i ran a 4.08 over the 75m with a finish speed of over 120k/hr. i think i came 3rd in the accel event.

Yes we definetely need seals as some are acutally missing. Bertie, 4secs was a fairly modest estimate as the engine is yet to be run.

Alex yeah? Such a shame about the RS125 used to love that bike! The R1 engine wasnt the uni's, rather one of the tech workshop guys, and he has since left, which is a shame as we where going to put it in the car and turn it into a hill climb car after the competition.

That would have been fucking bonkers! Remember that hillclimber that had the black bird motor in it. I remember tearing it to shreds with Dexter. Looked impressive at first, but when you got closer it wasn't very square.
Jah tiz me Alex. Which one are you in the photos? I miss my RS

They make a new car every year?
What happens to the old ones, may I ask...?
