GS1100 Cafe Racer Project "Romesy"
G'day All.
I'm new here but have been lurking on other forums. I have this build thread also on another forum, with the same username, however I did alot of research before buying my bike on PSB and hence, would love to have some guidance from members here.
I purchased an 82 GS1100 G today in the hope that I will get her into a fine example of a cafe racer.
I have some mechanical experience up my sleeve, but nothing that I could really hold a conversation with.
I have aqcuried some decent tools over the years, and will no doubt be spending endless amounts of money to increase the size of my tool cabinet. Might even buy some more cabinets!
But in all honesty, I picked up this bike based on the size, the reliability, and the sheer grace that it holds.
The engine kicks over, but does not start, so first on the agenda is to get it running.
The bike is also missing some bits that can be easily replaceable.
However I'm in need of the top triple clamp. So i'll be going round to some wreckers this week to source this.
Handlebars, mirrors, grips, clutch/brake levers and cables, new brakes, tacho, front light and unique wiring skills will all be required too.
I'll be getting some pods for the carbs soon, but am worried about the engine not starting due to jetting, and I have no idea where to start with that!
I have a workshop manual that will be my best friend for the next few months. But i'm hoping that i'll get the engine running soon.
If there is anyone on the forums that can help me, or point me somewhere for information and parts etc. I'd appreciate it.

Great start for a project. Just make a list and break down the project into tasks, then approach one at a time. I did this with my GSX11 resto and it has worked so far. One of the best tips was to bag and label all parts as they come off the bike, and take heaps of photos.
It will be good to see another old air cooled war horse come back to life.
One parts source given to me was suziparts.net (South Australia) I haven't used them but have heard that they are good.
I also sourced a new exhaust from the UK for about half the local price, and have saved a fair bit on other parts too.
The web will be your friend.
Good luck.
