    Highway to the Danger Zone!

So I recently purchased a 1988 Kawasaki GPZ 900 from Falcore as a run around and project. and I thought I would start a build thread to document the slow progress of getting her back up to her glory from all those years ago. I have a good base to start with considering its age but she has seen some dogfights!

so below are some photos of her as she sits now.

she has had some cool mods added to her whie she was used as a tourer, which includes.
    • oxford heated grips
    • Hepco & Becker Hard Paniers
    • 12v power supplies x2

it also has as you can see aftermarket VW Beetle style indicators on the front from when it had a tumble.

my plans for her in the short term are to give her a damn good tidy up and service, do some maintenance on the stopping and suspension aspects of the bike and in the long term I want to build her styled on the Top Gun bike. because really why wouldn't you?

if anyone has any links to repro fairings, exhausts for these thingsand other cosmetics that would be great.

I also need to get the head freshened up as it has a sticky valve and would like to get that sorted before I do some damage! and i believe Gav from GD will be the man to speak to regarding this!

I used one of these motors in a roadrace sidecar in the late 80's.
Wiseco 972cc kit, removed the balance shaft (requires rebalancing) and a close ratio gearbox/heavy duty clutch (ZX10) kit (factory available at the time, purchased from Hartleys), flatslides, etc.
If you've got the time, have a talk to the chair boys at Wanneroo, they may know what happened to the bits, I know it got broken up.
Looked after, they're reasonably bullet proof and a whole lot of fun.

Yeah...... used to do heaps of these things and 1000RX's for speedway and road race chairs. They are pretty friendly old girls once you know your way around them. Have a close look at the alternator chain tensioner........ it's ugly when those things go wrong.

Awesome basis for a project, you'll have fun
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Thanks for the replies! Some good links there, it's not going to be a fast project so expect it to drop off the first page often but it will get there. I can't wait to get her naked this weekend and get a better idea on the damage to the fairings to see how much hidden work there is!

For those of you who were around when these were a hot item and new, what were the exhaust can options, brands I mean and are any of them still around? I have had a look and did see a kerker. I want something period for her. Any ideas would be helpful!

So I prices up the full set of carbon fairings from magical racing and comes to about 4k now knowing there is no paintto be done on them that seems pretty good compared to fairing repair and paint on the standard ones.... Must start saving the pennies!
